“ So desert creatures and hyenas will live there, and there the owl will dwell. It will never again be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation.

“ Desert creatures and hyenas will live in Babylon. And so will owls. People will never live there again. It will not be lived in for all time to come.

“ Therefore wild beasts shall dwell with hyenas in Babylon, and ostriches shall dwell in her. She shall never again have people, nor be inhabited for all generations.

“ Soon Babylon will be inhabited by desert animals and hyenas. It will be a home for owls. Never again will people live there; it will lie desolate forever.

Therefore, desert creatures will live with hyenas, and ostriches will also live in her. It will never again be inhabited or lived in through all generations.

Therefore desert creatures and jackals will live there. Ostriches will dwell in it too. But no people will ever live there again. No one will dwell there for all time to come.

Therefore the wild animals of the desert with the wolves will dwell there. The ostriches will dwell therein; and it will be inhabited no more forever; neither will it be lived in from generation to generation.

“我必使巴比伦被箭猪所占，又使它变为泥沼之地；我必用毁灭的扫帚把它扫净。”这是万军之耶和华说的。

然后你要说：‘耶和华啊！论到这地方，你曾经亲自说过要把它剪除，使这地永远荒凉，没有人畜居住。’你宣读完这书卷以后，要把一块石头和书拴在一起，丢进幼发拉底河里，然后说：‘巴比伦必因耶和华（“耶和华”原文作“我”）所要降给它的灾祸，照样沉下去，不再浮上来；它的人民也必灭没。’”耶利米的话到此为止。

但鹈鹕与箭猪要占据那地，猫头鹰和乌鸦必住在其中。耶和华必把混沌的准绳、空虚的线铊，拉在其上。它的显贵一个也没有了，以致不能称为一国，所有的领袖也没有了。以东的宫殿必长荆棘，它的堡垒必长蒺藜和刺草；它要作野狗的住处，作鸵鸟的居所。旷野的走兽必与豺狼相遇，野山羊必呼喊它的同伴；连夜间的怪物也必在那里栖身，为自己寻找休息的地方。箭蛇要在那里筑窝、下蛋、孵蛋，并且聚子在它的阴影下；鹞鹰也各与自己的伴偶，聚集在那里。你们要查考和阅读耶和华的书卷；这些都无一缺少，也没有一个是没有伴偶的，因为他的口（按照《马索拉文本》，“他的口”作“我的口”；现参照《死海古卷》和其他古译本翻译）已吩咐了，他的灵已把它们聚集。他也为它们抽签，他的手用准绳给它们分地；它们必永远得着那地，也要世世代代住在其中。

它的城镇变为荒凉，成为干旱的地和沙漠，没有人住在里面，也没有人经过。

有一位大力的天使，把一块好像大磨石一样的石头，举起来抛在海里，说：“巴比伦大城也必这样被猛力地抛下去，决不能再找到了！弹琴、奏乐、吹笛、吹号的声音，在你中间决不能再听到了！各样手艺技工，在你中间决不能再找到了！推磨的声音，在你中间决不能再听到了！灯的亮光，在你中间决不能再照耀了！新郎新娘的声音，在你中间决不能再听到了！你的商人一向都是地上的大人物，万国都因你的邪术受了迷惑。先知、圣徒和地上一切被杀的人的血，都在这城里找到了！”

“人必不从你那里取石头作房角石，也不从你那里取石头作基石，因为你必永远荒凉。”这是耶和华的宣告。

巴比伦必变成乱堆，成为野狗的巢穴，成为令人惊骇和嗤笑的对象，没有人居住。巴比伦人必像少壮狮子一起吼叫，又像幼狮咆哮。

但你们的母亲必极度羞愧，生你们的必受耻辱。看哪！她要在列国中沦为最弱小的，成为旷野、旱地、沙漠。”因耶和华的烈怒，巴比伦必没有人居住，完全荒废；每一个住过巴比伦的，都必因这地遭受的一切创伤而惊骇，并且嗤笑它。
