我喜爱良善，不喜爱祭祀；喜爱认识神，胜于燔祭。

撒母耳说：“耶和华喜悦燔祭和平安祭，岂如喜悦人听从他的话呢？听命胜于献祭；顺从胜于公羊的脂油。

经上说：‘我喜爱怜恤，不喜爱祭祀。’这句话的意思，你们且去揣摩。我来本不是召义人，乃是召罪人。”

祭物和礼物，你不喜悦；你已经开通我的耳朵。燔祭和赎罪祭非你所要。

你本不喜爱祭物，若喜爱，我就献上；燔祭，你也不喜悦。神所要的祭就是忧伤的灵；神啊，忧伤痛悔的心，你必不轻看。

我并不因你的祭物责备你；你的燔祭常在我面前。我不从你家中取公牛，也不从你圈内取山羊；因为，树林中的百兽是我的，千山上的牲畜也是我的。山中的飞鸟，我都知道；野地的走兽也都属我。我若是饥饿，我不用告诉你，因为世界和其中所充满的都是我的。我岂吃公牛的肉呢？我岂喝山羊的血呢？你们要以感谢为祭献与神，又要向至高者还你的愿，并要在患难之日求告我；我必搭救你，你也要荣耀我。”但神对恶人说：“你怎敢传说我的律例，口中提到我的约呢？其实你恨恶管教，将我的言语丢在背后。

并且尽心、尽智、尽力爱他，又爱人如己，就比一切燔祭和各样祭祀好的多。”
