Thus says the Lord:“ Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;

This is what the Lord says:“ Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches,

The Lord says,“ Do not let wise people brag about how wise they are. Do not let strong people boast about how strong they are. Do not let rich people brag about how rich they are.

Thus says the Lord:“ Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches,

This is what the Lord says:“ Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches.

“‘ This is what the LORD says: The wise person should not boast in his wisdom; the strong should not boast in his strength; the wealthy should not boast in his wealth.

This is what the Lord says:“ Let no wise man boast of his wisdom, nor let the mighty man boast of his might, nor a rich man boast of his riches;

Thus saith Jehovah, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches;

This is what the Lord says: The wise man must not boast in his wisdom; the strong man must not boast in his strength; the wealthy man must not boast in his wealth.

Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise[ man] glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty[ man] glory in his might, let not the rich[ man] glory in his riches:

The LORD says,“ Wise people should not boast that they are wise. Powerful people should not boast that they are powerful. Rich people should not boast that they are rich.

Yahweh says,“ Don’t let the wise man glory in his wisdom. Don’t let the mighty man glory in his might. Don’t let the rich man glory in his riches.

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,that no flesh should glory in His presence.

I returned and saw under the sun that— The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all.

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, And prudent in their own sight!

Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written,“ He catches the wise in their own craftiness”;and again,“ The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.”

Professing to be wise, they became fools,

Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death.

But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.

For it is written:“ I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

‘ They will throw their silver into the streets, And their gold will be like refuse; Their silver and their gold will not be able to deliver them In the day of the wrath of the Lord; They will not satisfy their souls, Nor fill their stomachs, Because it became their stumbling block of iniquity.

Then Ben-Hadad sent to him and said,“ The gods do so to me, and more also, if enough dust is left of Samaria for a handful for each of the people who follow me.”So the king of Israel answered and said,“ Tell him,‘ Let not the one who puts on his armor boast like the one who takes it off.’”

Those who trust in their wealth And boast in the multitude of their riches,None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him—For the redemption of their souls is costly, And it shall cease forever—That he should continue to live eternally, And not see the Pit.For he sees wise men die; Likewise the fool and the senseless person perish, And leave their wealth to others.Their inner thought is that their houses will last forever, Their dwelling places to all generations; They call their lands after their own names.Nevertheless man, though in honor, does not remain; He is like the beasts that perish.This is the way of those who are foolish, And of their posterity who approve their sayings. The righteous also shall see and fear, And shall laugh at him, saying,“ Here is the man who did not make God his strength, But trusted in the abundance of his riches, And strengthened himself in his wickedness.”

then you say in your heart,‘ My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’

Do not trust in oppression, Nor vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, Do not set your heart on them.

“ Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre,‘ Thus says the Lord God:“ Because your heart is lifted up, And you say,‘ I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, In the midst of the seas,’ Yet you are a man, and not a god, Though you set your heart as the heart of a god( Behold, you are wiser than Daniel! There is no secret that can be hidden from you!With your wisdom and your understanding You have gained riches for yourself, And gathered gold and silver into your treasuries;By your great wisdom in trade you have increased your riches, And your heart is lifted up because of your riches),”‘ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD:“ Because you have set your heart as the heart of a god,Behold, therefore, I will bring strangers against you, The most terrible of the nations; And they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom, And defile your splendor.They shall throw you down into the Pit, And you shall die the death of the slain In the midst of the seas.“ Will you still say before him who slays you,‘ I am a god’? But you shall be a man, and not a god, In the hand of him who slays you.

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

And the people kept shouting,“ The voice of a god and not of a man!”Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down.

“ If I have made gold my hope, Or said to fine gold,‘ You are my confidence’;If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, And because my hand had gained much;

The king spoke, saying,“ Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?”While the word was still in the king’s mouth, a voice fell from heaven:“ King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you!

Neither their silver nor their gold Shall be able to deliver them In the day of the LORD’s wrath; But the whole land shall be devoured By the fire of His jealousy, For He will make speedy riddance Of all those who dwell in the land.

Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Lord has performed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, that He will say,“ I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his haughty looks.”For he says:“ By the strength of my hand I have done it, And by my wisdom, for I am prudent; Also I have removed the boundaries of the people, And have robbed their treasuries; So I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man.

For he says,‘ Are not my princes altogether kings?

And a champion went out from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.He had a bronze helmet on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze.And he had bronze armor on his legs and a bronze javelin between his shoulders.Now the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and his iron spearhead weighed six hundred shekels; and a shield-bearer went before him.Then he stood and cried out to the armies of Israel, and said to them,“ Why have you come out to line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us.”And the Philistine said,“ I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.”

O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father a kingdom and majesty, glory and honor.And because of the majesty that He gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whomever he wished, he executed; whomever he wished, he kept alive; whomever he wished, he set up; and whomever he wished, he put down.But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.Then he was driven from the sons of men, his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and appoints over it whomever He chooses.“ But you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, although you knew all this.And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.

He frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot carry out their plans.He catches the wise in their own craftiness, And the counsel of the cunning comes quickly upon them.They meet with darkness in the daytime, And grope at noontime as in the night.

And the land of Egypt shall become desolate and waste; then they will know that I am the Lord, because he said,‘ The River is mine, and I have made it.’

Therefore flight shall perish from the swift, The strong shall not strengthen his power, Nor shall the mighty deliver himself;He shall not stand who handles the bow, The swift of foot shall not escape, Nor shall he who rides a horse deliver himself.The most courageous men of might Shall flee naked in that day,” Says the Lord.

No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.A horse is a vain hope for safety; Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength.

Then I saw that wisdom excels folly As light excels darkness.The wise man’s eyes are in his head, But the fool walks in darkness. Yet I myself perceived That the same event happens to them all.So I said in my heart,“ As it happens to the fool, It also happens to me, And why was I then more wise?” Then I said in my heart,“ This also is vanity.”For there is no more remembrance of the wise than of the fool forever, Since all that now is will be forgotten in the days to come. And how does a wise man die? As the fool!

And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them,“ Children, how hard it is for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God!

Now therefore, I urge you, give a pledge to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses— if you are able on your part to put riders on them!How then will you repel one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust in Egypt for chariots and horsemen?

And I will say to my soul,“ Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”’But God said to him,‘ Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’

Do not be afraid when one becomes rich, When the glory of his house is increased;For when he dies he shall carry nothing away; His glory shall not descend after him.Though while he lives he blesses himself( For men will praise you when you do well for yourself),

And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking.

Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?”

And who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will rule over all my labor in which I toiled and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.
