「我的子民啊，我做了什麼對不起你們的事？我哪裡令你們厭煩？回答我！

我們悖逆，否認耶和華，離棄我們的上帝，說欺壓、叛逆的話，吐露心中編織的謊言。正義被趕逐，公義不能靠近，真理倒在街上，正直被拒之門外。真理無處可尋，遠離惡事的人反成了獵物。耶和華因正義蕩然無存而不悅。

雖然遙遠的路途使你們疲倦，你們卻從不放棄。你們找到了新的力量，所以沒有暈倒。

這些學說是出自假冒偽善的騙子，他們良心喪盡，麻木不仁，

他們舌頭鋒利如刀，言語惡毒如箭穿心。

鐵匠把鐵塊放在炭火裡燒，用他強壯的臂膀揮動鐵錘把它打成偶像。他饑餓時就會無力，口渴時就會疲乏。木匠拉線測量木料，用筆勾出形狀，用圓規畫出模樣，仿照人的樣子用鑿子做成逼真的神像，放在廟宇裡。他砍伐香柏木，或從林中選取柏木和橡木。他栽種松樹，雨水使它長大。

卻徒勞無功，因為鏽垢太厚，就是用火也不能清除。

耶和華說：「他們鼓舌如簧，射出謊言，遍地充滿詭詐，毫無誠實；他們行惡不斷，不認我是上帝。

彼此幫助，互相勉勵說，『要剛強！』工匠鼓勵銀匠，打磨的勉勵打砧的，說，『打得好！』他們用釘子把偶像釘牢，免得搖晃。

你滿口惡言，謊話連篇，

因為他們不作惡就無法入睡，不絆倒人就無法安眠；

他們的言語惡毒如蛇，嘴唇有蛇的毒液。（細拉）

你喋喋不休，人們豈能緘默不言？你嘲笑譏諷，豈不該有人使你羞愧？

所以不要再說謊，大家都要彼此說真話，因為我們都是一個身體的肢體。

惡人心懷惡念，居心叵測，滋生虛謊。

列邦的財富都化為灰燼，列國勞碌卻是一場空。這不都是出於萬軍之耶和華嗎？

那些用虛假作繩子扯來罪惡，用套繩拉來邪惡的人有禍了！

他們舌如毒箭，說話詭詐，對鄰居口蜜腹劍。
