Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.

Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials,

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

You turned my lament into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,

A large crowd of people followed him, including women who were mourning and lamenting him.

as grieving, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet enriching many; as having nothing, yet possessing everything.

I said to him,“ Sir, you know.” Then he told me: These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.For this reason they are before the throne of God, and they serve him day and night in his temple. The one seated on the throne will shelter them:They will no longer hunger; they will no longer thirst; the sun will no longer strike them, nor will any scorching heat.For the Lamb who is at the center of the throne will shepherd them; he will guide them to springs of the waters of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor, a lifetime. Weeping may stay overnight, but there is joy in the morning.

Those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy.Though one goes along weeping, carrying the bag of seed, he will surely come back with shouts of joy, carrying his sheaves.

I waited patiently for the LORD, and he turned to me and heard my cry for help.He brought me up from a desolate pit, out of the muddy clay, and set my feet on a rock, making my steps secure.He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and they will trust in the LORD.

But we were hoping that he was the one who was about to redeem Israel. Besides all this, it’s the third day since these things happened.

for I satisfy the thirsty person and feed all those who are weak.”

Now to him who is able to protect you from stumbling and to make you stand in the presence of his glory, without blemish and with great joy,

And not only that, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received this reconciliation.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

to provide for those who mourn in Zion; to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, festive oil instead of mourning, and splendid clothes instead of despair. And they will be called righteous trees, planted by the LORD to glorify him.

And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Then they went out from the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to be treated shamefully on behalf of the Name.

When he has swallowed up death once and for all, the Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from every face and remove his people’s disgrace from the whole earth, for the LORD has spoken.On that day it will be said,“ Look, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he has saved us. This is the LORD; we have waited for him. Let’s rejoice and be glad in his salvation.”

the joy of the wicked has been brief and the happiness of the godless has lasted only a moment?

Then he asked them,“ What is this dispute that you’re having with each other as you are walking?” And they stopped walking and looked discouraged.

When he got up from prayer and came to the disciples, he found them sleeping, exhausted from their grief.

Immediately a rooster crowed a second time, and Peter remembered when Jesus had spoken the word to him,“ Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.

As much as she glorified herself and indulged her sensual and excessive ways, give her that much torment and grief. For she says in her heart,“ I sit as a queen; I am not a widow, and I will never see grief.”

Light dawns for the righteous, gladness for the upright in heart.

I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”

Yet, because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts,praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

Those who live on the earth will gloat over them and celebrate and send gifts to one another because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth.

Blessed are you who are hungry now, because you will be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, because you will laugh.

You who tremble at his word, hear the word of the LORD:“ Your brothers who hate and exclude you for my name’s sake have said,‘ Let the LORD be glorified so that we can see your joy!’ But they will be put to shame.”

We have also obtained access through him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we boast in the hope of the glory of God.And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance,

On that day you will say:“ I will give thanks to you, LORD, although you were angry with me. Your anger has turned away, and you have comforted me.

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace,encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word.

The next day, which followed the preparation day, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilateand said,“ Sir, we remember that while this deceiver was still alive he said,‘ After three days I will rise again.’So give orders that the tomb be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come, steal him, and tell the people,‘ He has been raised from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.”“ Take guards,” Pilate told them.“ Go and make it as secure as you know how.”They went and secured the tomb by setting a seal on the stone and placing the guards.

When the centurion saw what happened, he began to glorify God, saying,“ This man really was righteous!”All the crowds that had gathered for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, went home, striking their chests.But all who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.

They will come weeping, but I will bring them back with consolation. I will lead them to wadis filled with water, by a smooth way where they will not stumble, for I am Israel’s Father, and Ephraim is my firstborn.Nations, hear the word of the LORD, and tell it among the far off coasts and islands! Say,“ The one who scattered Israel will gather him. He will watch over him as a shepherd guards his flock,for the LORD has ransomed Jacob and redeemed him from the power of one stronger than he.”They will come and shout for joy on the heights of Zion; they will be radiant with joy because of the LORD’s goodness, because of the grain, the new wine, the fresh oil, and because of the young of the flocks and herds. Their life will be like an irrigated garden, and they will no longer grow weak from hunger.Then the young women will rejoice with dancing, while young and old men rejoice together. I will turn their mourning into joy, give them consolation, and bring happiness out of grief.I will refresh the priests with an abundance, and my people will be satisfied with my goodness. This is the LORD’s declaration.

and you yourselves became imitators of us and of the Lord when, in spite of severe persecution, you welcomed the message with joy from the Holy Spirit.

Those who passed by were yelling insults at him, shaking their heads, and saying,“ Ha! The one who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,save yourself by coming down from the cross!”In the same way, the chief priests with the scribes were mocking him among themselves and saying,“ He saved others, but he cannot save himself!Let the Messiah, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see and believe.” Even those who were crucified with him taunted him.

Those who passed by were yelling insults at him, shaking their headsand saying,“ You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!”In the same way the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him and said,“ He saved others, but he cannot save himself! He is the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.He trusts in God; let God rescue him now— if he takes pleasure in him! For he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”In the same way even the criminals who were crucified with him taunted him.

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing there, he said to his mother,“ Woman, here is your son.”Then he said to the disciple,“ Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

Having said this, he showed them his hands and his side. So the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.

“ But when the tenant farmers saw the son, they said to each other,‘ This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’
