于是耶稣出来，戴着荆棘的冠冕，披着紫色的外袍。彼拉多对他们说：“看，这个人！”

因为那天是犹太人的预备日，又因为那墓穴就在附近，他们就把耶稣葬在那里。

到了晚上，因为是预备日，就是安息日的前一日，

彼拉多写了一个牌子，放在十字架上头，写的是：“犹太人的王拿撒勒人耶稣。”有许多犹太人念了这牌子上所写的，因为耶稣钉十字架的地方离城不远，而且那牌子是用希伯来文、拉丁文和希腊文写的。犹太人的祭司长对彼拉多说：“不要写‘犹太人的王’，要写‘这个人自称：我是犹太人的王’。”彼拉多说：“我所写的，我已经写了！”

从正午到下午三点钟，遍地都黑暗了。下午三点的时候，耶稣大声呼号：“以罗伊，以罗伊，拉马撒巴各大尼？”这句话译出来就是：“我的神，我的神，你为什么离弃我？”

那天是预备日，安息日就要开始，

因为那天是预备日，为了要避免尸体在安息日留在十字架上（因为那安息日是个重要的日子），犹太人就请求彼拉多打断那些被钉十字架的人的腿，把他们拿下来。于是士兵来了，把和耶稣一同钉十字架的那两个人的腿都先后打断了。

然后来到他面前，说：“犹太人的王万岁！”并且用手掌打他。
