Romans 3:19-20
Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses, and to show that the entire world is guilty before God.For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.

But if you don’t obey God’s law, you are no better off than an uncircumcised Gentile.And if the Gentiles obey God’s law, won’t God declare them to be his own people?In fact, uncircumcised Gentiles who keep God’s law will condemn you Jews who are circumcised and possess God’s law but don’t obey it.For you are not a true Jew just because you were born of Jewish parents or because you have gone through the ceremony of circumcision.No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God. And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a change of heart produced by the Spirit. And a person with a changed heart seeks praise from God, not from people.

Romans 10:5-10
For Moses writes that the law’s way of making a person right with God requires obedience to all of its commands.But faith’s way of getting right with God says,“ Don’t say in your heart,‘ Who will go up to heaven?’( to bring Christ down to earth).And don’t say,‘ Who will go down to the place of the dead?’( to bring Christ back to life again).”In fact, it says,“ The message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart.” And that message is the very message about faith that we preach:If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.

Galatians 3:10
But those who depend on the law to make them right with God are under his curse, for the Scriptures say,“ Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all the commands that are written in God’s Book of the Law.”

The old way, with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away.Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life?If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God!In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory of the new way.So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new, which remains forever!

Romans 2:12
When the Gentiles sin, they will be destroyed, even though they never had God’s written law. And the Jews, who do have God’s law, will be judged by that law when they fail to obey it.

Romans 7:9-14
At one time I lived without understanding the law. But when I learned the command not to covet, for instance, the power of sin came to life,and I died. So I discovered that the law’s commands, which were supposed to bring life, brought spiritual death instead.Sin took advantage of those commands and deceived me; it used the commands to kill me.But still, the law itself is holy, and its commands are holy and right and good.But how can that be? Did the law, which is good, cause my death? Of course not! Sin used what was good to bring about my condemnation to death. So we can see how terrible sin really is. It uses God’s good commands for its own evil purposes.So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin.
