After all, our ancestors ate manna while they journeyed through the wilderness! The Scriptures say,‘ Moses gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”

Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written:‘ He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”

Long ago our people ate the manna in the desert. It is written in Scripture,‘ The Lord gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ ”( Exodus 16:4; Nehemiah 9:15; Psalm 78:24, 25)

And I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it.

All of them ate the same spiritual food,

No manna appeared on the day they first ate from the crops of the land, and it was never seen again. So from that time on the Israelites ate from the crops of Canaan.

Then the Lord said to Moses,“ Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day. I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow my instructions.On the sixth day they will gather food, and when they prepare it, there will be twice as much as usual.”So Moses and Aaron said to all the people of Israel,“ By evening you will realize it was the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt.In the morning you will see the glory of the Lord, because he has heard your complaints, which are against him, not against us. What have we done that you should complain about us?”Then Moses added,“ The Lord will give you meat to eat in the evening and bread to satisfy you in the morning, for he has heard all your complaints against him. What have we done? Yes, your complaints are against the Lord, not against us.”Then Moses said to Aaron,“ Announce this to the entire community of Israel:‘ Present yourselves before the Lord, for he has heard your complaining.’”And as Aaron spoke to the whole community of Israel, they looked out toward the wilderness. There they could see the awesome glory of the Lord in the cloud.Then the Lord said to Moses,“ I have heard the Israelites’ complaints. Now tell them,‘ In the evening you will have meat to eat, and in the morning you will have all the bread you want. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God.’”That evening vast numbers of quail flew in and covered the camp. And the next morning the area around the camp was wet with dew.When the dew evaporated, a flaky substance as fine as frost blanketed the ground.The Israelites were puzzled when they saw it.“ What is it?” they asked each other. They had no idea what it was. And Moses told them,“ It is the food the Lord has given you to eat.

I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will not die as your ancestors did( even though they ate the manna) but will live forever.”

Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

But now our appetites are gone. All we ever see is this manna!”The manna looked like small coriander seeds, and it was pale yellow like gum resin.The people would go out and gather it from the ground. They made flour by grinding it with hand mills or pounding it in mortars. Then they boiled it in a pot and made it into flat cakes. These cakes tasted like pastries baked with olive oil.The manna came down on the camp with the dew during the night.

So the people of Israel ate manna for forty years until they arrived at the land where they would settle. They ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

You sent your good Spirit to instruct them, and you did not stop giving them manna from heaven or water for their thirst.
