聖殿護衛長和差役再去把使徒抓回來。這次他們不敢動粗，生怕百姓會用石頭打他們。

這時，猶大帶著一隊士兵以及祭司長和法利賽人的差役，拿著燈籠、火把和兵器來了。

「虛偽的律法教師和法利賽人啊，你們有禍了！因為你們當著人們的面關閉天國之門，自己不進去，也不讓別人進去。

祭司長和法利賽人看見差役空手回來，就問：「你們為什麼不把祂帶來呢？」差役答道：「從未有人像祂那樣說話！」法利賽人說：「難道你們也被祂迷惑了嗎？哪有官長和法利賽人信祂呢？這群不明白律法的民眾該受咒詛！」曾經夜訪耶穌、屬於他們當中一員的尼哥德慕說：「難道不聽被告申辯，不查明事實真相，我們的律法就定祂的罪嗎？」他們回答說：「難道你也是加利利人嗎？你去查查看，就會知道沒有先知是從加利利來的。」

眾人都很驚奇，就說：「這人會不會是大衛的那個後裔？」法利賽人聽見後卻說：「祂不過是靠鬼王別西卜趕鬼罷了。」

然後對前來抓祂的祭司長、聖殿護衛長和長老說：「你們像對付強盜一樣拿著刀棍來抓我嗎？我天天和你們一起在聖殿裡，你們沒有抓我。但現在正是黑暗當權、你們得勢的時候了！」

法利賽人彼此議論說：「我們真是枉費心思！你看，整個世界都跟著祂跑了。」
