If I am guilty— woe to me! Even if I am innocent, I cannot lift my head, for I am full of shame and drowned in my affliction.

If I were guilty, how terrible that would be for me! Even if I haven’t sinned, I can’t be proud of what I’ve done. That’s because I’m so full of shame. I’m drowning in my suffering.

If I am guilty, woe to me! If I am in the right, I cannot lift up my head, for I am filled with disgrace and look on my affliction.

If I am guilty, too bad for me; and even if I’m innocent, I can’t hold my head high, because I am filled with shame and misery.

If I am wicked, woe to me! And even if I am righteous, I cannot lift up my head. I am filled with shame and have drunk deeply of my affliction.

Although thou knowest that I am not wicked, And there is none that can deliver out of thy hand?

Therefore am I terrified at his presence; When I consider, I am afraid of him.

And Jehovah said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people that are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

Even when I remember I am troubled, And horror taketh hold on my flesh.

I shall be condemned; Why then do I labor in vain?

but unto them that are factious, and obey not the truth, but obey unrighteousness, shall be wrath and indignation,tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that worketh evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek;

Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of hosts.

Let mine enemy be as the wicked, And let him that riseth up against me be as the unrighteous.

Behold, O Jehovah; for I am in distress; my heart is troubled; My heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled: Abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death.

Consider mine affliction, and deliver me; For I do not forget thy law.

Behold, he seizeth the prey, who can hinder him? Who will say unto him, What doest thou?

Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou wast wroth, and we sinned: in them have we been of long time; and shall we be saved?For we are all become as one that is unclean, and all our righteousnesses are as a polluted garment: and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.

Even so ye also, when ye shall have done all the things that are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants; we have done that which it was our duty to do.

The wicked shall be turned back unto Sheol, Even all the nations that forget God.

Remember, O Jehovah, what is come upon us: Behold, and see our reproach.Our inheritance is turned unto strangers, Our houses unto aliens.We are orphans and fatherless; Our mothers are as widows.We have drunken our water for money; Our wood is sold unto us.Our pursuers are upon our necks: We are weary, and have no rest.We have given the hand to the Egyptians, And to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.Our fathers sinned, and are not; And we have borne their iniquities.Servants rule over us: There is none to deliver us out of their hand.We get our bread at the peril of our lives, Because of the sword of the wilderness.Our skin is black like an oven, Because of the burning heat of famine.They ravished the women in Zion, The virgins in the cities of Judah.Princes were hanged up by their hand: The faces of elders were not honored.The young men bare the mill; And the children stumbled under the wood.The elders have ceased from the gate, The young men from their music.The joy of our heart is ceased; Our dance is turned into mourning.The crown is fallen from our head: Woe unto us! for we have sinned.For this our heart is faint; For these things our eyes are dim;For the mountain of Zion, which is desolate: The foxes walk upon it.Thou, O Jehovah, abidest for ever; Thy throne is from generation to generation.Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, And forsake us so long time?Turn thou us unto thee, O Jehovah, and we shall be turned; Renew our days as of old.But thou hast utterly rejected us; Thou art very wroth against us.
