for he stretches out his hand against God, and vaunts himself against the Almighty,

因其舉手以攻上帝、狂傲以敵全能者、

惡人自恃其勇、狂悖成性、侮慢全能之上帝。

因其舉手抗拒天主、妄恃己力、侮慢全能之主、

because he shakes his fist at God and vaunts himself against the Almighty,

They shake their fists at God. They brag about themselves and oppose the Mighty One.

Because he has stretched out his hand against God and defies the Almighty,

For they shake their fists at God, defying the Almighty.

For he has stretched out his hand against God and has arrogantly opposed the Almighty.

Because he has reached out with his hand against God, And is arrogant toward the Almighty.

For he stretches out his hand against God, And acts defiantly against the Almighty,

Because he hath stretched out his hand against God, And behaveth himself proudly against the Almighty;

For he has stretched out his hand against God and has arrogantly opposed the Almighty.

For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.

Because he has stretched out his hand against God, and behaves himself proudly against the Almighty,

He is wise in heart and mighty in strength– who has resisted him and remained safe?

Why harden your hearts like the Egyptians and Pharaoh did? When God treated them harshly, didn’t the Egyptians send the Israelites on their way?

“ Look, here is the man who would not make God his protector! He trusted in his great wealth and was confident about his plans to destroy others.”

They speak as if they rule in heaven, and lay claim to the earth.

then he reveals to them what they have done, and their transgressions, that they were behaving proudly.

Instead, you have exalted yourself against the Lord of heaven. You brought before you the vessels from his temple, and you and your nobles, together with your wives and concubines, drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone– gods that cannot see or hear or comprehend! But you have not glorified the God who has in his control your very breath and all your ways!

“ You have criticized me sharply,” says the LORD,“ but you ask,‘ How have we criticized you?’

But Pharaoh said,“ Who is the LORD that I should obey him by releasing Israel? I do not know the LORD, and I will not release Israel!”And they said,“ The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Let us go a three-day journey into the desert so that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God, so that he does not strike us with plague or the sword.”

They say,“ How does God know what we do? Is the sovereign one aware of what goes on?”

You will be broken, O nations; you will be shattered! Pay attention, all you distant lands of the earth! Get ready for battle, and you will be shattered! Get ready for battle, and you will be shattered!Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted! Issue your orders, but they will not be executed! For God is with us!

I am not angry. I wish I could confront some thorns and briers! Then I would march against them for battle; I would set them all on fire,

Do you have an arm as powerful as God’s, and can you thunder with a voice like his?Adorn yourself, then, with majesty and excellency, and clothe yourself with glory and honor!Scatter abroad the abundance of your anger. Look at every proud man and bring him low;

About that time King Herod laid hands on some from the church to harm them.

You are still exalting yourself against my people by not releasing them.

The Philistines were scared because they thought that gods had come to the camp. They said,“ Too bad for us! We’ve never seen anything like this!Too bad for us! Who can deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? These are the gods who struck the Egyptians with all sorts of plagues in the desert!Be strong and act like men, you Philistines, or else you will wind up serving the Hebrews the way they have served you! Act like men and fight!”

Who acts and carries out decrees? Who summons the successive generations from the beginning? I, the LORD, am present at the very beginning, and at the very end– I am the one.The coastlands see and are afraid; the whole earth trembles; they approach and come.They help one another; one says to the other,‘ Be strong!’The craftsman encourages the metalsmith, the one who wields the hammer encourages the one who pounds on the anvil. He approves the quality of the welding, and nails it down so it won’t fall over.”

“‘ If in spite of these things you do not allow yourselves to be disciplined and you walk in hostility against me,

Immediately an angel of the Lord struck Herod down because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died.

So he said,“ Who are you, Lord?” He replied,“ I am Jesus whom you are persecuting!

But when the sovereign master finishes judging Mount Zion and Jerusalem, then I will punish the king of Assyria for what he has proudly planned and for the arrogant attitude he displays.For he says:“ By my strong hand I have accomplished this, by my strategy that I devised. I invaded the territory of nations, and looted their storehouses. Like a mighty conqueror, I brought down rulers.My hand discovered the wealth of the nations, as if it were in a nest, as one gathers up abandoned eggs, I gathered up the whole earth. There was no wing flapping, or open mouth chirping.”
