耶路巴力的兒子亞比米勒到了示劍去見他的眾母舅，對他們、和他母親父系家屬的全宗族講話說：『請說給示劍的眾公民聽，問他們說：「是耶路巴力的眾兒子七十人都管理你們好呢？還是一個人管理你們好呢？」你們還要懷念着我是你們的骨肉啊。』他的眾母舅便將這一切話為他說給示劍的眾公民聽；示劍人的心就傾向亞比米勒；因為他們說：『他到底是我們的親戚啊。』

雅各從巴旦亞蘭回來的時候，平平安安地來到迦南地的示劍城，在城的東面支帳棚。就用一百塊銀錠從示劍的父親哈抹的子孫手裏買得了搭帳棚的地段。

他們就把手裏所有的外人神像、和他們耳朵上的環子給了雅各；雅各把這些東西都埋在示劍附近的聖篤耨香樹底下。
