Those who try to hide their plans from the LORD are as good as dead, who do their work in secret and boast,“ Who sees us? Who knows what we’re doing?”

Then when desire conceives, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is full grown, it gives birth to death.

You must burn the images of their gods, but do not covet the silver and gold that covers them so much that you take it for yourself and thus become ensnared by it; for it is abhorrent to the LORD your God.

Those who devise sinful plans are as good as dead, those who dream about doing evil as they lie in bed. But among you there must not be either sexual immorality, impurity of any kind, or greed, as these are not fitting for the saints.

He did not go down to his house.So they informed David,“ Uriah has not gone down to his house.” So David said to Uriah,“ Haven’t you just arrived from a journey? Why haven’t you gone down to your house?”Uriah replied to David,“ The ark and Israel and Judah reside in temporary shelters, and my lord Joab and my lord’s soldiers are camping in the open field. Should I go to my house to eat and drink and have marital relations with my wife? As surely as you are alive, I will not do this thing!”So David said to Uriah,“ Stay here another day. Tomorrow I will send you back.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem both that day and the following one.Then David summoned him. He ate and drank with him, and got him drunk. But in the evening he went out to sleep on his bed with the servants of his lord; he did not go down to his own house.In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah.In the letter he wrote:“ Station Uriah in the thick of the battle and then withdraw from him so he will be cut down and killed.”So as Joab kept watch on the city, he stationed Uriah at the place where he knew the best enemy soldiers were.When the men of the city came out and fought with Joab, some of David’s soldiers fell in battle. Uriah the Hittite also died.

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! Certainly, I would not have known sin except through the law. For indeed I would not have known what it means to desire something belonging to someone else if the law had not said,“ Do not covet.”But sin, seizing the opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of wrong desires. For apart from the law, sin is dead.

One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of his palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. Now this woman was very attractive.

For you say,“ We have made a treaty with death, with Sheol we have made an agreement. When the overwhelming judgment sweeps by it will not reach us. For we have made a lie our refuge, we have hidden ourselves in a deceitful word.”

Gehazi, the prophet Elisha’s servant, thought,“ Look, my master did not accept what this Syrian Naaman offered him. He insisted, and tied up two talents of silver in two bags, along with two suits of clothes. He gave them to two of his servants and they carried them for Gehazi.When he arrived at the hill, he took them from the servants and put them in the house. Then he sent the men on their way.When he came and stood before his master, Elisha asked him,“ Where have you been, Gehazi?” He answered,“ Your servant hasn’t been anywhere.”Elisha replied,“ I was there in spirit when a man turned and got down from his chariot to meet you. This is not the proper time to accept silver or to accept clothes, olive groves, vineyards, sheep, cattle, and male and female servants.Therefore Naaman’s skin disease will afflict you and your descendants forever!” When Gehazi went out from his presence, his skin was as white as snow.

Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said,“ I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.”

Nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing is secret that will not be made known.

The primary regions of his kingdom were Babel, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh in the land of Shinar.

“ I made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I entertain thoughts against a virgin?

The one who builds his house by unjust gain is as good as dead. He does this so he can build his nest way up high and escape the clutches of disaster.

Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it are the sources of life.

But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to desire her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away! It is better to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into hell.

Do not look on the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly.

For you can be confident of this one thing: that no person who is immoral, impure, or greedy( such a person is an idolater) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

So put to deat h whatever in your nature belongs to the earth: sexual immorality, impurity, shameful passion, evil desire, and greed which is idolatry.

The stingy person hastens after riches and does not know that poverty will overtake him.

the sons of God saw that the daughters of humankind were beautiful. Thus they took wives for themselves from any they chose.

After this the following episode took place. Naboth the Jezreelite owned a vineyard in Jezreel adjacent to the palace of King Ahab of Samaria.Ahab said to Naboth,“ Give me your vineyard so I can make a vegetable garden out of it, for it is adjacent to my palace. I will give you an even better vineyard in its place, or if you prefer, I will pay you silver for it.”

Those who long to be rich, however, stumble into temptation and a trap and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.For the love of money is the root of all evils. Some people in reaching for it have strayed from the faith and stabbed themselves with many pains.
