Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell facedown to the ground before the ark of the Lord, remaining there till evening. The elders of Israel did the same, and sprinkled dust on their heads.

巴拿巴和保罗见此情形，就撕裂衣服，冲进人群中，大声喊着说：

末底改得知这事，就撕裂衣服，披上麻衣，头蒙灰尘，在城中行走，放声痛哭，

列阵之前，他们在耶和华面前一直哀哭到晚上。他们求问耶和华，说：“我们应该再去攻打我们的同胞便雅悯人吗？”耶和华说：“可以去。”

摩西和亚伦就伏在地上说：“上帝啊，赐人生命的上帝啊！一人犯罪，你就要向全体会众发怒吗？”

当天有一个便雅悯人逃出了战场，他撕烂衣服，头蒙灰尘，来到示罗。

大卫为这孩子向上帝哀求，并且禁食，他进到里面，整夜躺在地上。

以色列全军来到伯特利，坐在耶和华面前哀哭，那天他们一直禁食到晚上，又在耶和华面前献上燔祭和平安祭。

一听到这些，我便撕裂衣服和外袍，拔掉头发和胡须，惊惧地坐下。听了以色列上帝的话而战抖的人都聚集在我周围，因为流亡归来的人不忠。我惊惧地坐在那里，直到献晚祭的时候。献晚祭的时候，我满怀忧伤地起来，穿着那撕裂的衣服和外袍，双膝跪下，向我的上帝耶和华伸出双手，

他们因扫罗、他的儿子约拿单和耶和华的子民——以色列同胞阵亡而悲哀痛哭，禁食直到黄昏。

他们来到伯特利，坐在上帝面前放声痛哭，直到黄昏。
