The Lord has rejected his altar and abandoned his sanctuary. He has given the walls of her palaces into the hands of the enemy; they have raised a shout in the house of the Lord as on the day of an appointed festival.

The Lord deserted his altar. He left his temple. He gave the walls of Jerusalem’s palaces into the hands of her enemies. They shouted loudly in the house of the Lord. You would have thought it was the day of an appointed feast.

The Lord has scorned his altar, disowned his sanctuary; he has delivered into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces; they raised a clamor in the house of the Lord as on the day of festival.

The Lord has rejected his own altar; he despises his own sanctuary. He has given Jerusalem’s palaces to her enemies. They shout in the Lord’s Temple as though it were a day of celebration.

Hurry and look at the permanent ruins, and all the damage the enemy has done to the temple!Your enemies roar in the middle of your sanctuary; they set up their battle flags.They invade like lumberjacks swinging their axes in a thick forest.And now they are tearing down all its engravings with axes and crowbars.They set your sanctuary on fire; they desecrate your dwelling place by knocking it to the ground.They say to themselves,“ We will oppress all of them.” They burn down all the places where people worship God in the land.

God heard and was angry; he completely rejected Israel.He abandoned the sanctuary at Shiloh, the tent where he lived among men.He allowed the symbol of his strong presence to be captured; he gave the symbol of his splendor into the hand of the enemy.

Say to the house of Israel,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says: Realize I am about to desecrate my sanctuary– the source of your confident pride, the object in which your eyes delight, and your life’s passion. Your very own sons and daughters whom you have left behind will die by the sword.

They rendered the beauty of his ornaments into pride, and with it they made their abominable images– their detestable idols. Therefore I will render it filthy to them.I will give it to foreigners as loot, to the world’s wicked ones as plunder, and they will desecrate it.I will turn my face away from them and they will desecrate my treasured place. Vandals will enter it and desecrate it.

He burned down the LORD’s temple, the royal palace, and all the houses in Jerusalem, including every large house.

The Babylonian soldiers that are attacking this city will break into it and set it on fire. They will burn it down along with the houses where people have made me angry by offering sacrifices to the god Baal and by pouring out drink offerings to other gods on their rooftops.

“ Micah from Moresheth prophesied during the time Hezekiah was king of Judah. He told all the people of Judah,‘ The LORD who rules over all says,“ Zion will become a plowed field. Jerusalem will become a pile of rubble. The temple mount will become a mere wooded ridge.”’

The Babylonians burned down the royal palace, the temple of the LORD, and the people’s homes, and they tore down the wall of Jerusalem.

The Lord, like an enemy, destroyed Israel. He destroyed all her palaces; he ruined her fortified cities. He made everyone in Daughter Judah mourn and lament.ו( Vav)

I will lay your cities waste and make your sanctuaries desolate, and I will refuse to smell your soothing aromas.

So I will set Judah on fire, and it will consume Jerusalem’s fortresses.”

Therefore, because of you, Zion will be plowed up like a field, Jerusalem will become a heap of ruins, and the Temple Mount will become a hill overgrown with brush!

In spite of this, however, when they are in the land of their enemies I will not reject them and abhor them to make a complete end of them, to break my covenant with them, for I am the LORD their God.

They brought forward false witnesses who said,“ This man does not stop saying things against this holy place and the law.For we have heard him saying that Jesus the Nazarene will destroy this place and change the customs that Moses handed down to us.”

And he said to them,“ Do you see all these things? I tell you the truth, not one stone will be left on another. All will be torn down!”

They burned down the LORD’s temple and tore down the wall of Jerusalem. They burned all its fortified buildings and destroyed all its valuable items.

He will defend the oppressed among the people; he will deliver the children of the poor and crush the oppressor.People will fear you as long as the sun and moon remain in the sky, for generation after generation.He will descend like rain on the mown grass, like showers that drench the earth.During his days the godly will flourish; peace will prevail as long as the moon remains in the sky.May he rule from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth!Before him the coastlands will bow down, and his enemies will lick the dust.The kings of Tarshish and the coastlands will offer gifts; the kings of Sheba and Seba will bring tribute.All kings will bow down to him; all nations will serve him.For he will rescue the needy when they cry out for help, and the oppressed who have no defender.He will take pity on the poor and needy; the lives of the needy he will save.From harm and violence he will defend them; he will value their lives.May he live! May they offer him gold from Sheba! May they continually pray for him! May they pronounce blessings on him all day long!May there be an abundance of grain in the earth; on the tops of the mountains may it sway! May its fruit trees flourish like the forests of Lebanon! May its crops be as abundant as the grass of the earth!May his fame endure! May his dynasty last as long as the sun remains in the sky! May they use his name when they formulate their blessings! May all nations consider him to be favored by God!The LORD God, the God of Israel, deserves praise! He alone accomplishes amazing things!His glorious name deserves praise forevermore! Your chosen cities have become a desert; Zion has become a desert, Jerusalem is a desolate ruin.Our holy temple, our pride and joy, the place where our ancestors praised you, has been burned with fire; all our prized possessions have been destroyed.

So, go to the place in Shiloh where I allowed myself to be worshiped in the early days. See what I did to it because of the wicked things my people Israel did.You also have done all these things, says the LORD, and I have spoken to you over and over again. But you have not listened! You have refused to respond when I called you to repent!So I will destroy this temple which I have claimed as my own, this temple that you are trusting to protect you. I will destroy this place that I gave to you and your ancestors, just like I destroyed Shiloh.

If you do not obey me, then I will do to this temple what I did to Shiloh. And I will make this city an example to be used in curses by people from all the nations on the earth.’”

Alas! The Lord has covered Daughter Zion with his anger. He has thrown down the splendor of Israel from heaven to earth; he did not protect his temple when he displayed his anger.ב( Bet)

I will bring the most wicked of the nations and they will take possession of their houses. I will put an end to the arrogance of the strong, and their sanctuaries will be desecrated.

‘ Call on me in prayer and I will answer you. I will show you great and mysterious things which you still do not know about.’For I, the LORD God of Israel, have something more to say about the houses in this city and the royal buildings which have been torn down for defenses against the siege ramps and military incursions of the Babylonians:‘ The defenders of the city will go out and fight with the Babylonians. But they will only fill those houses and buildings with the dead bodies of the people that I will kill in my anger and my wrath. That will happen because I have decided to turn my back on this city on account of the wicked things they have done.
