It is a day of sabbath rest for you, and you must deny yourselves. From the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following evening you are to observe your sabbath.”

This will be a Sabbath day of complete rest for you, and on that day you must deny yourselves. This day of rest will begin at sundown on the ninth day of the month and extend until sundown on the tenth day.”

“ Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.For My yoke is comfortable, and My burden is light.”

It is to be a Sabbath of solemn rest for you, so that you may humble yourselves; it is a permanent statute.

But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting, But my prayer kept returning to me.

“ On exactly the tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement; it shall be a holy convocation for you, and you shall humble yourselves and present an offering by fire to the Lord.

To grant those who mourn in Zion, Giving them a garland instead of ashes, The oil of gladness instead of mourning, The cloak of praise instead of a disheartened spirit. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.

When I wept in my soul with fasting, It became my disgrace.When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a proverb to them.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, God, You will not despise.

But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged.

Those who sow in tears shall harvest with joyful shouting.One who goes here and there weeping, carrying his bag of seed, Shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.

‘ Why have we fasted and You do not see? Why have we humbled ourselves and You do not notice?’ Behold, on the day of your fast you find your desire, And oppress all your workers.Behold, you fast for contention and strife, and to strike with a wicked fist. You do not fast like you have done today to make your voice heard on high!Is it a fast like this that I choose, a day for a person to humble himself? Is it for bowing one’s head like a reed And for spreading out sackcloth and ashes as a bed? Will you call this a fast, even an acceptable day to the Lord?Is this not the fast that I choose: To release the bonds of wickedness, To undo the ropes of the yoke, And to let the oppressed go free, And break every yoke?Is it not to break your bread with the hungry And bring the homeless poor into the house; When you see the naked, to cover him; And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?

Therefore let’s make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same example of disobedience.

For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said,“ As I swore in My anger, They certainly shall not enter My rest,” although His works were finished from the foundation of the world.

For this is what the high and exalted One Who lives forever, whose name is Holy, says:“ I dwell in a high and holy place, And also with the contrite and lowly of spirit In order to revive the spirit of the lowly And to revive the heart of the contrite.

I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him and restore comfort to him and to his mourners,Creating the praise of the lips. Peace, peace to him who is far away and to him who is near,” Says the Lord,“ and I will heal him.”

“ Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
