Indeed the Lord visited Hannah, and she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. And the boy Samuel grew in the presence of the Lord.

And the angel of the Lord appeared to the woman and said to her,“ Behold, you are barren and have not borne children, but you shall conceive and bear a son.Therefore be careful and drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean,for behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the Lord!

And the Lord said,“ Call his name Not My People, for you are not my people, and I am not your God.”Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured or numbered. And in the place where it was said to them,“ You are not my people,” it shall be said to them,“ Children of the living God.”

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

She conceived again and bore a daughter. And the Lord said to him,“ Call her name No Mercy, for I will no more have mercy on the house of Israel, to forgive them at all.

And the Lord said to him,“ Call his name Jezreel, for in just a little while I will punish the house of Jehu for the blood of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.

but his mother answered,“ No; he shall be called John.”And they said to her,“ None of your relatives is called by this name.”And they made signs to his father, inquiring what he wanted him to be called.And he asked for a writing tablet and wrote,“ His name is John.” And they all wondered.

And he said to them,“ Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.

But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying,“ Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”

And Isaac prayed to the Lord for his wife, because she was barren. And the Lord granted his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.”
