耶穌日訓殿中、而司祭長經生及諸紳正謀所以置諸死地、苦無良策；蓋民皆樂聆其訓、為之神往。

Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him.

當那時候耶穌對羣眾說：『你們出來，帶着刀棒要捉拿我，如同拿強盜麼？我天天坐在殿裏教訓人，你們並沒有抓住我呀！

祭司長和經學士聽見了，就想法子要怎樣殺滅耶穌；他們怕他；因為全羣的人都因他的教訓而驚駭。

他們又來到耶路撒冷；耶穌在殿院裏走的時候，祭司長經學士和長老們來見他，對他說：『你仗着甚麼權柄作這些事啊？誰給了你這權柄，使你作這些事呢？』耶穌對他們說：『我要問你們一件事，你們回答我，我就告訴你們我仗着甚麼權柄作這些事：約翰的洗禮是由於天呢？還是由於人？請回答我。』他們彼此議論說：『我們若說由於天，他就會說，那你們為甚麼不信他？但是、若說由於人呢——』他們怕羣眾；因為眾人都看約翰真是神言人。於是回答耶穌說：『我們不知道。』耶穌對他們說：『我、也不告訴你們我仗着甚麼權柄作這些事。』

白天耶穌在殿裏教訓人，夜裏就出去到那叫橄欖園的山上住宿。眾民清早起來到他那裏，要在殿裏聽他。

過兩天就是逾越節和除酵節了；祭司長和經學士直想法子要怎樣用詭詐抓住耶穌，來殺他。

耶穌回答他說：『我從來是坦然公開地向世人講話；我常常在會堂在殿裏、眾猶太人聚集的地方、教訓人，並沒有在隱密中講甚麼呀。

那時祭司長和民間的長老聚集在稱為該亞法的大祭司院子裏，一同計議，要用詭計抓住耶穌，殺他。

摩西沒有將律法頒給你們麼？你們中間竟沒有一個人遵行律法呀！你們為甚麼想法子要殺我呢？』

他們想法子要抓住耶穌，卻懼怕羣眾；他們覺得他是指着他們來說這比喻的；便離開他走了。

於是他們又想法子要逮他；他卻逕自從他們手裏出來了。

其中有人想要逮他，卻沒有人下手拿他。

從那一天，他們就定意要殺耶穌。因此耶穌不再公開在猶太人中間往來，卻離開那裏、往靠近曠野的地區去，到了一座城叫以法蓮，就在那裏同門徒住下。猶太人的逾越節近了；逾越節以前，有許多人從鄉下上耶路撒冷，要行禮使自己清潔。他們直尋找耶穌，在殿裏站着的時候直彼此說：『你們以為怎樣啊？他決不來過節麼？』祭司長和法利賽人早已發了命令：若有人知道耶穌在哪裏，就該報告，他們好去逮他。

『我知道你們是亞伯拉罕的後裔；然而你們還想法子要殺我，因為我的道在你們裏面沒有地位。我從我父所看見的，我就說出來；你們從你們的父所聽見的，你們也作出來！』他們回答耶穌說：『我們的父就是亞伯拉罕啊。』耶穌對他們說：『你們如果是亞伯拉罕的子孫，亞伯拉罕所行的事，你們就行了。但如今呢、你們卻想法子要殺我這個對你們講真理的人；這真理又是我從上帝所聽見的！這種事、亞伯拉罕並沒有作啊。

耶穌進了殿院，正教訓人的時候，祭司長和民間的長老們上他跟前來，說：『你仗着甚麼權柄作這些事啊？誰給你這權柄呢？』
