For if I have done wrong and have committed anything worthy of death, I don’t refuse to die; but if none of those things is true that they accuse me of, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar!”Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered,“ You have appealed to Caesar. To Caesar you shall go.”

Festus therefore, having come into the province, after three days went up to Jerusalem from Caesarea.Then the high priest and the principal men of the Jews informed him against Paul, and they begged him,

All the city was moved and the people ran together. They seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple. Immediately the doors were shut.As they were trying to kill him, news came up to the commanding officer of the regiment that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.

Now about that time, King Herod stretched out his hands to oppress some of the assembly.He killed James, the brother of John, with the sword.When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This was during the days of unleavened bread.When he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of four soldiers each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover.

and the rest grabbed his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.

“ I think myself happy, King Agrippa, that I am to make my defense before you today concerning all the things that I am accused by the Jews,especially because you are expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews. Therefore I beg you to hear me patiently.“ Indeed, all the Jews know my way of life from my youth up, which was from the beginning among my own nation and at Jerusalem;having known me from the first, if they are willing to testify, that after the strictest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.Now I stand here to be judged for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers,which our twelve tribes, earnestly serving night and day, hope to attain. Concerning this hope I am accused by the Jews, King Agrippa!Why is it judged incredible with you, if God does raise the dead?“ I myself most certainly thought that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.I also did this in Jerusalem. I both shut up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, and when they were put to death I gave my vote against them.Punishing them often in all the synagogues, I tried to make them blaspheme. Being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

But watch yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils. You will be beaten in synagogues. You will stand before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them.The Good News must first be preached to all the nations.When they lead you away and deliver you up, don’t be anxious beforehand, or premeditate what you will say, but say whatever will be given you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.“ Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child. Children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.You will be hated by all men for my name’s sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved.

They laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was now evening.But many of those who heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.In the morning, their rulers, elders, and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem.Annas the high priest was there, with Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and as many as were relatives of the high priest.When they had stood Peter and John in the middle of them, they inquired,“ By what power, or in what name, have you done this?”

Therefore subject yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether to the king, as supreme;

Then they will deliver you up to oppression, and will kill you. You will be hated by all of the nations for my name’s sake.Then many will stumble, and will deliver up one another, and will hate one another.

But the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him( which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousyand laid hands on the apostles, then put them in public custody.But an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors by night, and brought them out and said,

They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time comes that whoever kills you will think that he offers service to God.They will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me.

They stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and came against him and seized him, then brought him in to the council,and set up false witnesses who said,“ This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the law.For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us.”All who sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face like it was the face of an angel.

The multitude rose up together against them and the magistrates tore their clothes from them, then commanded them to be beaten with rods.When they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely,who, having received such a command, threw them into the inner prison, and secured their feet in the stocks.But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were loosened.

who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and drove us out, and don’t please God, and are contrary to all men,forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always. But wrath has come on them to the uttermost.

They agreed with him. Summoning the apostles, they beat them and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

“ Behold, I send you out as sheep among wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to councils, and in their synagogues they will scourge you.Yes, and you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations.But when they deliver you up, don’t be anxious how or what you will say, for it will be given you in that hour what you will say.For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.“ Brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child. Children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.You will be hated by all men for my name’s sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved.But when they persecute you in this city, flee into the next, for most certainly I tell you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man has come.“ A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his lord.It is enough for the disciple that he be like his teacher, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household!

But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears, then rushed at him with one accord.They threw him out of the city and stoned him. The witnesses placed their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.They stoned Stephen as he called out, saying,“ Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”He kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice,“ Lord, don’t hold this sin against them!” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

Therefore behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city;that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.

Agrippa said to Festus,“ I also would like to hear the man myself.”“ Tomorrow,” he said,“ you shall hear him.”So on the next day, when Agrippa and Bernice had come with great pomp, and they had entered into the place of hearing with the commanding officers and the principal men of the city, at the command of Festus, Paul was brought in.Festus said,“ King Agrippa, and all men who are here present with us, you see this man about whom all the multitude of the Jews petitioned me, both at Jerusalem and here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and as he himself appealed to the emperor I determined to send him,

Remember the word that I said to you:‘ A servant is not greater than his lord.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.

After five days, the high priest, Ananias, came down with certain elders and an orator, one Tertullus. They informed the governor against Paul.When he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying,“ Seeing that by you we enjoy much peace, and that prosperity is coming to this nation by your foresight,we accept it in all ways and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.But that I don’t delay you, I entreat you to bear with us and hear a few words.For we have found this man to be a plague, an instigator of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.He even tried to profane the temple, and we arrested him.

But on the next day, desiring to know the truth about why he was accused by the Jews, he freed him from the bonds, and commanded the chief priests and all the council to come together, and brought Paul down and set him before them.

He fell on the earth, and heard a voice saying to him,“ Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

Therefore also the wisdom of God said,‘ I will send to them prophets and apostles; and some of them they will kill and persecute,that the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.’ Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation.

Don’t be afraid of the things which you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested; and you will have oppression for ten days. Be faithful to death, and I will give you the crown of life.
