The people stood there watching. The rulers even made fun of Jesus. They said,“ He saved others. Let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”

And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying,“ He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!”

The crowd watched and the leaders scoffed.“ He saved others,” they said,“ let him save himself if he is really God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”

The people stood watching, and even the leaders were scoffing:“ He saved others; let him save himself if this is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One!”

And the people stood by, watching. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying,“ He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One.”

As you come to him, the living Stone— rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—

“ Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.

The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus.

Do not let those gloat over me who are my enemies without cause; do not let those who hate me without reason maliciously wink the eye.They do not speak peaceably, but devise false accusations against those who live quietly in the land.They sneer at me and say,“ Aha! Aha! With our own eyes we have seen it.”Lord, you have seen this; do not be silent. Do not be far from me, Lord.Awake, and rise to my defense! Contend for me, my God and Lord.Vindicate me in your righteousness, Lord my God; do not let them gloat over me.Do not let them think,“ Aha, just what we wanted!” or say,“ We have swallowed him up.”

For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face.I am a foreigner to my own family, a stranger to my own mother’s children;for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.When I weep and fast, I must endure scorn;when I put on sackcloth, people make sport of me.Those who sit at the gate mock me, and I am the song of the drunkards.

“ If you are the Messiah,” they said,“ tell us.” Jesus answered,“ If I tell you, you will not believe me,and if I asked you, you would not answer.But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”They all asked,“ Are you then the Son of God?” He replied,“ You say that I am.”

How long will you people turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods

He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

This is what the Lord says— the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel— to him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the servant of rulers:“ Kings will see you and stand up, princes will see and bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”

Many bulls surround me; strong bulls of Bashan encircle me.Roaring lions that tear their prey open their mouths wide against me.

But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee; assailants gathered against me without my knowledge. They slandered me without ceasing.

They say,“ God has forsaken him; pursue him and seize him, for no one will rescue him.”

And a voice from heaven said,“ This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

“ And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.

For they persecute those you wound and talk about the pain of those you hurt.

“ Here comes that dreamer!” they said to each other.“ Come now, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we’ll see what comes of his dreams.”

Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying,“ So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,come down from the cross and save yourself!”In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him among themselves.“ He saved others,” they said,“ but he can’t save himself!Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

Two rebels were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left.Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their headsand saying,“ You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!”In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him.“ He saved others,” they said,“ but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”

I became the laughingstock of all my people; they mock me in song all day long.

But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by everyone, despised by the people.All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads.“ He trusts in the Lord,” they say,“ let the Lord rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”
