Herod asked him many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.

So he questioned him at some length, but he made no answer.

He asked Jesus question after question, but Jesus refused to answer.

So he kept asking him questions, but Jesus did not answer him.

But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge— to the great amazement of the governor.

This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading:“ He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, like the mute, who cannot speak;I have become like one who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no reply.

I was silent; I would not open my mouth, for you are the one who has done this.

I said,“ I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth while in the presence of the wicked.”So I remained utterly silent, not even saying anything good. But my anguish increased;

He replied,“ Go tell that fox,‘ I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.’

“ Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.
