A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.

The godly offer good counsel; they teach right from wrong.They have made God’s law their own, so they will never slip from his path.

Because of the sinful things they say, because of the evil that is on their lips, let them be captured by their pride, their curses, and their lies.

Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.

Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing.

In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire.And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish,but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison.

All day long you plot destruction. Your tongue cuts like a sharp razor; you’re an expert at telling lies.You love evil more than good and lies more than truth. InterludeYou love to destroy others with your words, you liar!

The words of the godly are like sterling silver; the heart of a fool is worthless.The words of the godly encourage many, but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense.

“ Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with lies.”“ Snake venom drips from their lips.”“ Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”

Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.

Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts.May the Lord cut off their flattering lips and silence their boastful tongues.They say,“ We will lie to our hearts’ content. Our lips are our own— who can stop us?”

I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.”I have told all your people about your justice. I will tell everyone about your righteousness. All day long I will proclaim your saving power, though I am not skilled with words.I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign Lord. I will tell everyone that you alone are just.O God, you have taught me from my earliest childhood, and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things you do.Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me.
