Yahweh will cut off, to the man who does this, him who wakes and him who answers, out of the tents of Jacob, and him who offers an offering to Yahweh of Armies.

As for the man who does this, whoever he may be, may the Lord remove him from the tents of Jacob— even though he brings an offering to the Lord Almighty.

May the Lord punish the man who marries a woman like this. It doesn’t matter who that man is. May the Lord who rules over all remove him from the tents of Jacob’s people. May the Lord remove him even if he brings an offering to him.

Don’t we all have one father? Hasn’t one God created us? Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, profaning the covenant of our fathers?

‘ Speak to the house of Israel,“ The Lord Yahweh says:‘ Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pities; and your sons and your daughters whom you have left behind will fall by the sword.

He who kills an ox is as he who kills a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, as he who breaks a dog’s neck; he who offers an offering, as he who offers pig’s blood; he who burns frankincense, as he who blesses an idol. Yes, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations:

“ For I, Yahweh, love justice. I hate robbery and iniquity. I will give them their reward in truth and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.

Yes, though you offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals.

Therefore Yahweh will cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed, in one day.The elder and the honorable man is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail.For those who lead this people lead them astray; and those who are led by them are destroyed.

“‘ But the soul who does anything with a high hand, whether he is native- born or a foreigner, blasphemes Yahweh. That soul shall be cut off from among his people.Because he has despised Yahweh’s word, and has broken his commandment, that soul shall be utterly cut off. His iniquity shall be on him.’”

How goodly are your tents, Jacob, and your dwellings, Israel!

Samuel said,“ Has Yahweh as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying Yahweh’s voice? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because you have rejected Yahweh’s word, he has also rejected you from being king.”

Among the sons of the priests there were found who had married foreign women: of the sons of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and his brothers, Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah.They gave their hand that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their guilt.

Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be removed with sacrifice or offering forever.”

One of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son- in- law to Sanballat the Horonite; therefore I chased him from me.Remember them, my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood and of the Levites.
