『律法和神言人到約翰為止；從此上帝國的福音就傳開了，人人用力擠着要進入。

耶穌對他們說：『你們要奮鬥，由窄門進入；我告訴你們，必有許多人尋求要進入，卻不能。

要穿戴上帝的軍裝，使你們能站穩、來抵擋魔鬼的詭計。因為我們的戰鬥並不是對屬血與肉的人，乃是對「眾執政的」、「眾掌權的」、對那些統轄這「黑暗」世界的、對天界中諸惡靈。故此你們要拿起上帝的軍裝，好在險惡的日子能抵擋得住；並且既作成了一切事，還能站穩。

別為那必敗壞的食品作工了，要為那存歸永生的食品作工，就是人子所要給你們的，因為人子乃是父上帝所蓋印承認的。』

耶穌進了殿院，正教訓人的時候，祭司長和民間的長老們上他跟前來，說：『你仗着甚麼權柄作這些事啊？誰給你這權柄呢？』耶穌回答他們說：『我、也要問你們一件事；你們若把那事告訴我，我就告訴你們我仗着甚麼權柄作這些事：約翰的洗禮是從哪裏來的？是由於天呢？還是由於人呢？』他們就彼此議論說：『我們若說「由於天」呢，他就會對我們說：「那你們為甚麼不信他？」若說「由於人」呢，我們又怕民眾，因為眾人都以約翰為神言人。』於是回答耶穌說：『我們不知道。』耶穌也就對他們說：『我、也不告訴你們我仗着甚麼權柄作這些事。』『但是你們以為怎樣？有一個人有兩個孩子；他走上前對老大說：「孩子，你去；你今天在葡萄園裏工作吧。」他回答說，「阿爸，我去」；卻沒有去。又走上前去對老二也這樣說；他回答說，「我不願意」；後來後悔，去了。這兩人中，誰實行了那父親的意旨呢？他們說：『那後者。』耶穌對他們說：「我實在告訴你們，收稅的人和妓女比你們先進上帝的國呢！因為約翰引着義路到你們這裏來，你們不信他；收稅人和妓女倒信他。你們看了之後，還是沒有後悔而去信他。

所以我親愛的，你們既時常聽從了，就該敬畏戰兢地作成你們自己的得救；不但像我和你們同在時那樣，就是如今我和你們不同在時、你們也更應當聽從；

眾民和收稅人因受過約翰的洗、聽見了這話、就承認上帝為義。但法利賽人和律法師因沒受過約翰的洗、竟自廢棄了上帝的計畫了）。
