Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, asked them,“ Does this offend you?Then what if you were to observe the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?The Spirit is the one who gives life. The flesh doesn’t help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.But there are some among you who don’t believe.”( For Jesus knew from the beginning those who did not believe and the one who would betray him.)He said,“ This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted to him by the Father.”

Peter told him,“ Even if everyone falls away because of you, I will never fall away.”

The one who loves a father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; the one who loves a son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.And whoever doesn’t take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.Anyone who finds his life will lose it, and anyone who loses his life because of me will find it.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision accomplishes anything; what matters is faith working through love.

The words from his mouth are malicious and deceptive; he has stopped acting wisely and doing good.

The one who loves his life will lose it, and the one who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.If anyone serves me, he must follow me. Where I am, there my servant also will be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

Jesus replied to them,“ Didn’t I choose you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil.”He was referring to Judas, Simon Iscariot’s son, one of the Twelve, because he was going to betray him.

I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

So don’t throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.For you need endurance, so that after you have done God’s will, you may receive what was promised.For yet in a very little while, the Coming One will come and not delay.But my righteous one will live by faith; and if he draws back, I have no pleasure in him.But we are not those who draw back and are destroyed, but those who have faith and are saved.

“ Then they will hand you over to be persecuted, and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of my name.Then many will fall away, betray one another, and hate one another.

No one can be made secure by wickedness, but the root of the righteous is immovable.

For what hope does the godless person have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?Will God hear his cry when distress comes on him?Will he delight in the Almighty? Will he call on God at all times?

Then Jesus said to them,“ Tonight all of you will fall away because of me, for it is written: I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.

But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Those who want to make a good impression in the flesh are the ones who would compel you to be circumcised— but only to avoid being persecuted for the cross of Christ.

The wicked desire what evil people have caught, but the root of the righteous is productive.

Calling the crowd along with his disciples, he said to them,“ If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of me and the gospel will save it.For what does it benefit someone to gain the whole world and yet lose his life?

On that day many will say to me,‘ Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name, and do many miracles in your name?’Then I will announce to them,‘ I never knew you. Depart from me, you lawbreakers!’
