那一天，耶穌從屋子裡出來，在湖邊坐下。

耶穌隨即催促他的門徒們上船，要他們先往對岸的伯賽達去；這期間，他自己遣散了人群。

彼得對耶穌說：「請把這個比喻解釋給我們聽。」耶穌說：「到如今，你們也無知嗎？

於是他的門徒當中有的彼此問：「他對我們說『過一會兒，你們就看不到我了；再過一會兒，你們又將見到我』，還說『是因為我要到父那裡去』，這是什麼意思呢？」他們又說：「他說的『過一會兒』是什麼意思呢？我們不明白他在說什麼。」耶穌知道他們想要問他，就對他們說：「我剛才說『過一會兒，你們就看不到我了；再過一會兒，你們又將見到我』，你們就為了這話彼此議論嗎？「我確確實實地告訴你們：你們將會痛哭、哀號，這世界反而會喜樂；你們將會憂傷，然而你們的憂傷要變成喜樂。

耶穌回答他們，說：「天國的奧祕已經賜下來讓你們知道，而沒有賜給那些人；

耶穌進了屋子，那兩個瞎眼的來到他面前。耶穌問他們：「你們相信我能做這件事嗎？」他們回答說：「主啊，是的，我們信。」

耶穌離開人群，一進了房子，他的門徒們就問他這比喻的意思。

耶穌立刻催促門徒們上船，要他們先往對岸去；這期間，他自己遣散了人群。

耶穌遣散了人群以後，就上了船，來到茉加丹地區。

他向眾人講話，沒有不用比喻的。可是，他卻單獨給自己的門徒們解釋一切。
