「如果你們有人有一百隻羊，走失了一隻，難道他不暫時把那九十九隻留在草場上，去找那隻迷失的羊，一直到找著為止嗎？他找到後，會歡歡喜喜地把那隻羊扛回家，並邀來朋友鄰居，說，『我走失的羊找到了，來和我一同慶祝吧！』我告訴你們，同樣，一個罪人悔改，在天上也要這樣為他歡喜，甚至比有九十九個不用悔改的義人還歡喜。

牧人怎樣尋找他四散的羊，我也照樣尋找我的羊，他們在密雲幽暗的日子失散到各地，我要把他們從那裡救回來。

他們必不再成為列國的獵物，也不會被地上的野獸吞吃。他們必安居樂業，不再受人驚嚇。

我的羊在群山和高崗上遊蕩，分散在各地，沒有人尋找他們。

我的子民成了一群迷路的羊，他們的牧人使他們步入歧途，在高山丘陵間流浪，忘了自己的安歇之處。

我要尋找迷失的，領回分散的，包紮受傷的，醫治患病的，但我要消滅肥壯的。我要憑公義牧養他們。」

耶穌又說：「你們怎樣看這件事？某人有兩個兒子。他對大兒子說，『孩子，你今天到葡萄園工作吧！』

「我是好牧人，好牧人為羊捨命。如果是僱工，不是牧人，羊也不是他的，狼一來，他必撇下羊逃命。狼就會抓住羊，把羊群驅散。他逃走，因為他是僱工，並不在乎羊。我是好牧人，我認識我的羊，我的羊也認識我，正如父認識我，我也認識父，並且我為羊捨命。我還有別的羊不在這羊圈裡，我必須領他們回來，他們也必聽我的聲音。這樣，我所有的羊將要合成一群，由一個牧人來帶領。父愛我，因為我捨棄自己的生命，為了再得回生命。沒有人能奪走我的生命，我是甘心捨棄的。我有權捨棄，也有權得回，這是我從父那裡得到的命令。」猶太人因這番話又起了紛爭。他們當中好些人說：「祂被鬼附身了！祂瘋了！何必聽祂的？」又有些人說：「被鬼附身的人不會說這種話的，鬼能醫好瞎眼的人嗎？」

耶穌回答說：「如果你們有一隻羊在安息日掉進坑裡，難道你們不把牠拉上來嗎？

從前你們好像是迷路的羊，現在卻歸向了你們靈魂的牧人和監護者。

我們都像迷路的羊，各人偏行己路，但上帝卻讓祂承擔我們眾人的罪惡。

你們都是明白事理的人，可以判斷我說的對不對。

我像隻迷途的羊，求你來尋找僕人，因為我沒有忘記你的命令。

「你們對基督有何看法？祂是誰的後裔？」他們答道：「大衛的後裔。」
