So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them,“ Which one do you want me to release to you: Jesus Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Messiah?”

如果你們不願意事奉耶和華，今天就選擇你們的神明吧，或大河那邊你們祖先事奉的神明，或你們這裡亞摩利人的神明。至於我和我全家，我們必事奉耶和華。」

眾人喊道：「除掉祂！除掉祂！把祂釘在十字架上！」彼拉多說：「我可以把你們的王釘在十字架上嗎？」祭司長答道：「除了凱撒，我們沒有別的王！」

以利亞走到眾人面前說：「你們三心二意要到什麼時候呢？如果耶和華是上帝，你們當跟從祂；如果巴力是上帝，你們就跟從他吧！」他們都默不作聲。

彼拉多問：「你們要我為你們釋放猶太人的王嗎？」因為他知道祭司長把耶穌押來是出於妒忌。但祭司長卻煽動百姓，叫他們要求彼拉多釋放巴拉巴。彼拉多只好問：「那麼，這位你們稱之為猶太人之王的，我如何處置呢？」

總督再次問百姓：「這兩個人，你們要我釋放哪一個？」他們說：「巴拉巴！」彼拉多問：「那麼，我怎樣處置那個被稱為基督的耶穌呢？」他們齊聲說：「把祂釘在十字架上！」

雅各生約瑟。約瑟就是瑪麗亞的丈夫，那被稱為基督的耶穌就是瑪麗亞生的。
