One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living.Jesus called out to them,“ Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”And they left their nets at once and followed him.A little farther up the shore Jesus saw Zebedee’s sons, James and John, in a boat repairing their nets.He called them at once, and they also followed him, leaving their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired men.

So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there.When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon,“ Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”“ Master,” Simon replied,“ we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.”And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said,“ Oh, Lord, please leave me— I’m such a sinful man.”For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him.His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon,“ Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!”And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.

Now I say to you that you are Peter( which means‘ rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.

After this, Jesus crossed over to the far side of the Sea of Galilee, also known as the Sea of Tiberias.

Later, Jesus appeared again to the disciples beside the Sea of Galilee. This is how it happened.

So Elijah went and found Elisha son of Shaphat plowing a field. There were twelve teams of oxen in the field, and Elisha was plowing with the twelfth team. He used the wood from the plow to build a fire to roast their flesh. He passed around the meat to the townspeople, and they all ate. Then he went with Elijah as his assistant.

He chose his servant David, calling him from the sheep pens.He took David from tending the ewes and lambs and made him the shepherd of Jacob’s descendants— God’s own people, Israel.He cared for them with a true heart and led them with skillful hands.

Jesus left Tyre and went up to Sidon before going back to the Sea of Galilee and the region of the Ten Towns.

One day Moses was tending the flock of his father in law, Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock far into the wilderness and came to Sinai, the mountain of God.

Then the angel of the Lord came and sat beneath the great tree at Ophrah, which belonged to Joash of the clan of Abiezer. Gideon son of Joash was threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide the grain from the Midianites.The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said,“ Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!”

Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.

Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt.”

Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up.

But Amos replied,“ I’m not a professional prophet, and I was never trained to be one. I’m just a shepherd, and I take care of sycamore fig trees.But the Lord called me away from my flock and told me,‘ Go and prophesy to my people in Israel.’
