就在那些日子里，有一天耶稣和他的门徒们上了船，耶稣对他们说：“我们渡到湖对岸去吧。”他们就出发了。船行的时候，耶稣睡着了。这时候，暴风降临到湖上，他们不断地被水浸灌，情况危险。门徒们上前来叫醒耶稣，说：“老师，老师，我们没命了！”耶稣就起来，斥责风和浪，风浪就止息，湖面就变得平静。耶稣对他们说：“你们的信仰在哪里？”他们又惧怕，又惊奇，彼此说：“这个人究竟是谁？他竟然命令风和水，连风和水也听从他！”

门徒离开众人，耶稣仍然在船上，他们就把他一同带去；也有别的船与他同行。这时候，起了大风暴，以致波浪打进船里，船几乎灌满了水。耶稣却在船尾靠着枕头睡着了。门徒们叫醒他，说：“老师！我们没命了，你不管吗？”耶稣就起来，斥责了风，对浪说：“不许做声！平静下来！”于是风就停了，湖面就变得一片平静。耶稣对门徒们说：“为什么胆怯呢？你们还没有信吗？”门徒们就大为惊恐，彼此说：“这个人究竟是谁？连风和浪也听从他！”

耶稣上了船，渡过去，来到自己的城里。

于是耶稣回答那两个人，说：“你们去把所看见、所听见的告诉约翰，就是：瞎眼的得以看见，瘸腿的行走，麻风病人被洁净，耳聋的听见，死人得以复活，穷人得以听到福音。
