Then Peter began to speak up.“ We’ve given up everything to follow you,” he said.

Then Peter spoke up,“ We have left everything to follow you!”

Then Peter said to him,“ We’ve given up everything to follow you. What will we get?”Jesus replied,“ I assure you that when the world is made new and the Son of Man sits upon his glorious throne, you who have been my followers will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life.But many who are the greatest now will be least important then, and those who seem least important now will be the greatest then.

They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind.

One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living.Jesus called out to them,“ Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”And they left their nets at once and followed him.A little farther up the shore Jesus saw Zebedee’s sons, James and John, in a boat repairing their nets.He called them at once, and they also followed him, leaving their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired men.

So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own.

Peter said,“ We’ve left our homes to follow you.”“ Yes,” Jesus replied,“ and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the Kingdom of God,will be repaid many times over in this life, and will have eternal life in the world to come.”

And they left their nets at once and followed him.

I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done.Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christand become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.
