耶穌上耶路撒冷去的時候，把十二門徒帶到一邊，在路上對他們說：“我們現在上耶路撒冷去，人子要被交給祭司長和經學家，他們要定他死罪，把他交給外族人凌辱、鞭打，並且釘在十字架上。然而第三天他要復活。”

耶穌被接上升的日子快到了，他就決意向耶路撒冷去，

就在那時候，耶穌說：“父啊，天地的主，我讚美你，因為你把這些事向智慧和聰明的人隱藏起來，卻向嬰孩顯明。

不用比喻，就不對他們講。只有單獨和自己的門徒在一起的時候，才把一切解釋給他們聽。

門徒對他說：“拉比，近來猶太人要拿石頭打你，你還到那裡去嗎？”

耶穌轉過身來，悄悄地對門徒說：“看見你們所看見的，那眼睛有福了！

那稱為“雙生子”（“雙生子”原文作“低土馬”）的多馬，對其他的門徒說：“我們也去跟他一同死吧！”

耶穌把十二門徒帶到一邊，對他們說：“我們現在上耶路撒冷去，先知所寫的一切，都要成就在人子身上。他要被交給外族人，受戲弄，被凌辱，他們要向他吐唾沫，鞭打他，殺害他；第三日他要復活。”這些話的含義對門徒是隱藏的。他們聽了，一點也不明白，不知道他說的是甚麼。

他回答：“天國的奧祕，只給你們知道，卻不給他們知道。

大祭司約書亞啊！你和坐在你面前的眾同伴都要聽，（他們都是預表將來奇事的人，）我必使我的僕人，就是大衛的苗裔出生。
