They were now on the way up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. The disciples were filled with awe, and the people following behind were overwhelmed with fear. Taking the twelve disciples aside, Jesus once more began to describe everything that was about to happen to him.

As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside privately and told them what was going to happen to him.“ Listen,” he said,“ we’re going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. They will sentence him to die.Then they will hand him over to the Romans to be mocked, flogged with a whip, and crucified. But on the third day he will be raised from the dead.”

As the time drew near for him to ascend to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.

At that time Jesus prayed this prayer:“ O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike.

In fact, in his public ministry he never taught without using parables; but afterward, when he was alone with his disciples, he explained everything to them.

But his disciples objected.“ Rabbi,” they said,“ only a few days ago the people in Judea were trying to stone you. Are you going there again?”

Then when they were alone, he turned to the disciples and said,“ Blessed are the eyes that see what you have seen.

Thomas, nicknamed the Twin, said to his fellow disciples,“ Let’s go, too— and die with Jesus.”

Taking the twelve disciples aside, Jesus said,“ Listen, we’re going up to Jerusalem, where all the predictions of the prophets concerning the Son of Man will come true.He will be handed over to the Romans, and he will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit upon.They will flog him with a whip and kill him, but on the third day he will rise again.”But they didn’t understand any of this. The significance of his words was hidden from them, and they failed to grasp what he was talking about.

He replied,“ You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not.

“ Listen to me, O Jeshua the high priest, and all you other priests. You are symbols of things to come. Soon I am going to bring my servant, the Branch.
