眾斥之、使緘默、彼愈呼曰、大衛之裔、矜憐我、

人多斥之、令勿喧。而彼更抗喉疾呼曰：『大維子、祈垂憐焉。』

Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more,“ Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Many people commanded him to stop. They told him to be quiet. But he shouted even louder,“ Son of David! Have mercy on me!”

And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more,“ Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Many warned him to keep quiet, but he was crying out all the more,“ Have mercy on me, Son of David!”

Many were sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more,“ Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more,“ Son of David, have mercy on me!”

And many rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried out the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

Many people told him to keep quiet, but he was crying out all the more,“ Have mercy on me, Son of David!”

And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal,[ Thou] Son of David, have mercy on me.

Many scolded him to get him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more,“ Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Many rebuked him, that he should be quiet, but he cried out much more,“ You son of David, have mercy on me!”

One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him.

“ Be quiet!” the crowd yelled at them. But they only shouted louder,“ Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”

While he was still speaking to her, messengers arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. They told him,“ Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”

and she begged him to cast out the demon from her daughter. Since she was a Gentile, born in Syrian Phoenicia,Jesus told her,“ First I should feed the children— my own family, the Jews. It isn’t right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs.”She replied,“ That’s true, Lord, but even the dogs under the table are allowed to eat the scraps from the children’s plates.”“ Good answer!” he said.“ Now go home, for the demon has left your daughter.”

Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story:“ Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him,‘ A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’And suppose he calls out from his bedroom,‘ Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’But I tell you this— though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence.“ And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.

But Jesus gave her no reply, not even a word. Then his disciples urged him to send her away.“ Tell her to go away,” they said.“ She is bothering us with all her begging.”Then Jesus said to the woman,“ I was sent only to help God’s lost sheep— the people of Israel.”But she came and worshiped him, pleading again,“ Lord, help me!”Jesus responded,“ It isn’t right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs.”She replied,“ That’s true, Lord, but even dogs are allowed to eat the scraps that fall beneath their masters’ table.”“ Dear woman,” Jesus said to her,“ your faith is great. Your request is granted.” And her daughter was instantly healed.

One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.“ There was a judge in a certain city,” he said,“ who neither feared God nor cared about people.A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying,‘ Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself,‘ I don’t fear God or care about people,but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’”Then the Lord said,“ Learn a lesson from this unjust judge.Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?”

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

unfailing love, O Lord, is yours. Surely you repay all people according to what they have done.

If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.

This left Jacob all alone in the camp, and a man came and wrestled with him until the dawn began to break.When the man saw that he would not win the match, he touched Jacob’s hip and wrenched it out of its socket.Then the man said,“ Let me go, for the dawn is breaking!” But Jacob said,“ I will not let you go unless you bless me.”“ What is your name?” the man asked. He replied,“ Jacob.”“ Your name will no longer be Jacob,” the man told him.“ From now on you will be called Israel, because you have fought with God and with men and have won.”
