于是窥探耶稣，打发奸细装作好人，要在他的话上得把柄，好将他交在巡抚的政权之下。奸细就问耶稣说：“夫子，我们晓得你所讲所传都是正道，也不取人的外貌，乃是诚诚实实传神的道。我们纳税给凯撒，可以不可以？”耶稣看出他们的诡诈，就对他们说：“拿一个银钱来给我看。这像和这号是谁的？”他们说：“是凯撒的。”耶稣说：“这样，凯撒的物当归给凯撒，神的物当归给神。”他们当着百姓，在这话上得不着把柄，又希奇他的应对，就闭口无言了。

法利赛人出去，同希律一党的人商议怎样可以除灭耶稣。

耶稣嘱咐他们说：“你们要谨慎，防备法利赛人的酵和希律的酵。”

他们就说：“来吧！我们可以设计谋害耶利米；因为我们有祭司讲律法，智慧人设谋略，先知说预言，都不能断绝。来吧！我们可以用舌头击打他，不要理会他的一切话。”

那寻索我命的设下网罗；那想要害我的口出恶言，终日思想诡计。

骄傲人为我暗设网罗和绳索；他们在路旁铺下网，设下圈套。细拉

他们终日颠倒我的话；他们一切的心思都是要害我。他们聚集，埋伏窥探我的脚踪，等候要害我的命。

当时，法利赛人出去商议，怎样就着耶稣的话陷害他，就打发他们的门徒同希律党的人去见耶稣，说：“夫子，我们知道你是诚实人，并且诚诚实实传神的道，什么人你都不徇情面，因为你不看人的外貌。请告诉我们，你的意见如何？纳税给凯撒可以不可以？”耶稣看出他们的恶意，就说：“假冒为善的人哪，为什么试探我？拿一个上税的钱给我看！”他们就拿一个银钱来给他。耶稣说：“这像和这号是谁的？”他们说：“是凯撒的。”耶稣说：“这样，凯撒的物当归给凯撒；神的物当归给神。”他们听见就希奇，离开他走了。

他们在争讼的事上定无罪的为有罪，为城门口责备人的设下网罗，用虚无的事屈枉义人。

耶稣对他们说：“你们要谨慎，防备法利赛人和撒都该人的酵。”
