捉拿耶穌的人把祂押到大祭司該亞法那裡。律法教師和長老已聚集在那裡。彼得遠遠地跟著耶穌，一直跟到大祭司的院子裡。他坐在衛兵當中，想知道事情的結果。祭司長和全公會的人正在尋找假證據來控告耶穌，好定祂死罪。雖然有很多假證人誣告祂，但都找不到真憑實據。最後有兩個人上前高聲說：「這個人曾經說過，『我能拆毀聖殿，三天內把它重建起來。』」大祭司站起來質問耶穌：「你不回答嗎？這些人作證控告你的是什麼呢？」耶穌還是沉默不語。大祭司又對祂說：「我奉永活上帝的名命令你起誓告訴我們，你是不是上帝的兒子基督？」耶穌說：「如你所言。但我告訴你們，將來你們要看見人子坐在大能者的右邊，駕著天上的雲降臨。」大祭司撕裂衣服，說：「祂褻瀆了上帝！我們還需要什麼證人呢？你們現在親耳聽見了祂說褻瀆的話，你們看怎麼辦？」他們回應說：「祂該死！」他們就吐唾沫在祂臉上，揮拳打祂。還有人一邊打祂耳光，一邊說：「基督啊！給我們說預言吧，是誰在打你？」

清早，祭司長、長老、律法教師和全公會的人商定後，便把耶穌綁起來押送到彼拉多那裡。

祂遭欺壓、受痛苦，卻默然不語，像被人牽去宰殺的羔羊，又如在剪毛人手下一聲不吭的綿羊。

第二天，官長、長老和律法教師都聚集在耶路撒冷，大祭司亞那，以及該亞法、約翰、亞歷山大和大祭司的許多親族都在場。

千夫長帶著士兵和猶太人的差役上前把耶穌捆綁起來，帶了回去。他們押著耶穌去見亞那，就是那一年的大祭司該亞法的岳父。這個該亞法以前曾對猶太人建議說：「讓祂一個人替眾人死對你們更好。」

他們把耶穌押到大祭司的府第。彼得遠遠地跟在後面。他們在庭院當中生起了火，圍坐取暖，彼得也坐在他們中間。有個婢女看見彼得坐在火堆邊，打量他一番後，說：「這人是與耶穌一夥的！」彼得卻否認說：「你這女子，我不認識祂。」過了一會兒，又有個人看見了彼得，就說：「你也是跟他們一夥的！」彼得說：「你這人，我不是！」大約一小時之後，又有人指著彼得肯定地說：「這人確實是和耶穌一夥的，因為他也是加利利人。」彼得說：「你這個人，我不知道你在說什麼！」話才出口，雞就叫了。這時，主轉過頭來望著彼得，彼得想起主對他說的話：「明早雞叫之前，你會三次不認我。」他就到外面，痛哭起來。

此時，大祭司正在盤問耶穌有關祂的門徒和祂的教導之事。耶穌說：「我是公開對世人講的，我常在猶太人聚集的會堂和聖殿教導人，沒有在背地裡講過什麼。你何必問我呢？問那些聽過我講的人吧，他們知道我講過什麼。」耶穌話才說完，站在旁邊的差役就打了祂一耳光，說：「你敢這樣回答大祭司！」耶穌說：「如果我說錯了，你可以指出我錯在哪裡。如果我說的對，你為什麼打我呢？」亞那把被捆綁起來的耶穌押到大祭司該亞法那裡。
