One of the experts in religious law answered him,“ Teacher, when you say these things you insult us too.”But Jesus replied,“ Woe to you experts in religious law as well! You load people down with burdens difficult to bear, yet you yourselves refuse to touch the burdens with even one of your fingers!

and you then take his daughters for your sons, and when his daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, they will make your sons prostitute themselves to their gods as well.

Everyone who does not observe both the law of your God and the law of the king will be completely liable to the appropriate penalty, whether it is death or banishment or confiscation of property or detainment in prison.”

Then, if the guilty person is sentenced to a beating, the judge shall force him to lie down and be beaten in his presence with the number of blows his wicked behavior deserves.The judge may sentence him to forty blows, but no more. If he is struck with more than these, you might view your fellow Israelite with contempt.

They solemnly agreed to seek the LORD God of their ancestors with their whole heart and being.Anyone who would not seek the LORD God of Israel would be executed, whether they were young or old, male or female.They swore their allegiance to the LORD, shouting their approval loudly and sounding trumpets and horns.All Judah was happy about the oath, because they made the vow with their whole heart. You must revere the LORD your God, serve him, and take oaths using only his name.

“ The Levites will call out to every Israelite with a loud voice:‘ Cursed is the one who makes a carved or metal image– something abhorrent to the LORD, the work of the craftsman– and sets it up in a secret place.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who disrespects his father and mother.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who moves his neighbor’s boundary marker.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who misleads a blind person on the road.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who perverts justice for the resident foreigner, the orphan, and the widow.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with his father’s former wife, for he dishonors his father.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who commits bestiality.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with his sister, the daughter of either his father or mother.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with his mother-in-law.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who kills his neighbor in private.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who takes a bribe to kill an innocent person.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’‘ Cursed is the one who refuses to keep the words of this law.’ Then all the people will say,‘ Amen!’

Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law contend with them.
