A fool spurns a parent’s discipline, but whoever heeds correction shows prudence.

A foolish person turns their back on their parent’s correction. But anyone who accepts correction shows understanding.

A fool despises his father’s instruction, but whoever heeds reproof is prudent.

Only a fool despises a parent’s discipline; whoever learns from correction is wise.

A fool despises his father’s discipline, but a person who accepts correction is sensible.

A fool rejects his father’s discipline, But he who complies with rebuke is sensible.

A fool despises his father’s instruction, But he who receives correction is prudent.

A fool despiseth his father’s correction; But he that regardeth reproof getteth prudence.

The person who hears the reproof that leads to life is at home among the wise.The one who refuses correction despises himself, but whoever hears reproof acquires understanding.

The one who neglects discipline ends up in poverty and shame, but the one who accepts reproof is honored.

Listen to advice and receive discipline, that you may become wise by the end of your life.

A wise son accepts his father’s discipline, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.

So communicate these things with the sort of exhortation or rebuke that carries full authority. Don’t let anyone look down on you.

“ And you, Solomon my son, obey the God of your father and serve him with a submissive attitude and a willing spirit, for the LORD examines all minds and understands every motive of one’s thoughts. If you seek him, he will let you find him, but if you abandon him, he will reject you permanently.

“ Now, my son, may the LORD be with you! May you succeed and build a temple for the LORD your God, just as he announced you would.Only may the LORD give you insight and understanding when he places you in charge of Israel, so you may obey the law of the LORD your God.Then you will succeed, if you carefully obey the rules and regulations which the LORD ordered Moses to give to Israel. Be strong and brave! Don’t be afraid and don’t panic!

Such testimony is true. For this reason rebuke them sharply that they may be healthy in the faith

Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover to the ear of the one who listens.

For the commandments are like a lamp, instruction is like a light, and rebukes of discipline are like the road leading to life,

Some time later Absalom managed to acquire a chariot and horses, as well as fifty men to serve as his royal guard.Now Absalom used to get up early and stand beside the road that led to the city gate. Whenever anyone came by who had a complaint to bring to the king for arbitration, Absalom would call out to him,“ What city are you from?” The person would answer,“ I, your servant, am from one of the tribes of Israel.”Absalom would then say to him,“ Look, your claims are legitimate and appropriate. But there is no representative of the king who will listen to you.”Absalom would then say,“ If only they would make me a judge in the land! Then everyone who had a judicial complaint could come to me and I would make sure he receives a just settlement.”When someone approached to bow before him, Absalom would extend his hand and embrace him and kiss him.Absalom acted this way toward everyone in Israel who came to the king for justice. In this way Absalom won the loyalty of the citizens of Israel.

He said to them,“ Why do you behave in this way? For I hear about these evil things from all these people.This ought not to be, my sons! For the report that I hear circulating among the LORD’s people is not good.If a man sins against a man, one may appeal to God on his behalf. But if a man sins against the LORD, who then will intercede for him?” But Eli’s sons would not listen to their father, for the LORD had decided to kill them.

May the godly strike me in love and correct me! May my head not refuse choice oil! Indeed, my prayer is a witness against their evil deeds.

The Proverbs of Solomon: A wise child makes a father rejoice, but a foolish child is a grief to his mother.

If only you will respond to my rebuke, then I will pour out my thoughts to you and I will make my words known to you.

David said to his son Solomon:“ Be strong and brave! Do it! Don’t be afraid and don’t panic! For the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not leave you or abandon you before all the work for the service of the LORD’s temple is finished.
