All who sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face like it was the face of an angel.

She called out with a loud voice, and said,“ Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!Why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?For behold, when the voice of your greeting came into my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy!Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord!”Mary said,“ My soul magnifies the Lord.My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior,for he has looked at the humble state of his servant. For behold, from now on, all generations will call me blessed.For he who is mighty has done great things for me. Holy is his name.His mercy is for generations of generations on those who fear him.He has shown strength with his arm. He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.He has put down princes from their thrones. And has exalted the lowly.He has filled the hungry with good things. He has sent the rich away empty.He has given help to Israel, his servant, that he might remember mercy,as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his offspring forever.”Mary stayed with her about three months, and then returned to her house.

He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside, and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

Then Esther the queen answered,“ If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request.For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for male and female slaves, I would have held my peace, although the adversary could not have compensated for the king’s loss.”Then King Ahasuerus said to Esther the queen,“ Who is he, and where is he who dared presume in his heart to do so?”Esther said,“ An adversary and an enemy, even this wicked Haman!” Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.

In the same way, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; so that, even if any don’t obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word,

Then a wise woman cried out of the city,“ Hear, hear! Please say to Joab,‘ Come near here, that I may speak with you.’”He came near to her; and the woman said,“ Are you Joab?” He answered,“ I am.” Then she said to him,“ Hear the words of your servant.” He answered,“ I’m listening.”Then she spoke, saying,“ They used to say in old times,‘ They shall surely ask counsel at Abel;’ and so they settled a matter.I am among those who are peaceable and faithful in Israel. You seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why will you swallow up Yahweh’s inheritance?”Joab answered,“ Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.The matter is not so. But a man of the hill country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has lifted up his hand against the king, even against David. Just deliver him, and I will depart from the city.” The woman said to Joab,“ Behold, his head will be thrown to you over the wall.”Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. They cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. He blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. Then Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.

She fell at his feet, and said,“ On me, my lord, on me be the blame! Please let your servant speak in your ears. Hear the words of your servant.Please don’t let my lord pay attention to this worthless fellow, Nabal; for as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name, and folly is with him; but I, your servant, didn’t see my lord’s young men, whom you sent.Now therefore, my lord, as Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, since Yahweh has withheld you from blood guiltiness, and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now therefore let your enemies, and those who seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal.Now this present which your servant has brought to my lord, let it be given to the young men who follow my lord.Please forgive the trespass of your servant. For Yahweh will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord fights Yahweh’s battles. Evil will not be found in you all your days.Though men may rise up to pursue you, and to seek your soul, yet the soul of my lord will be bound in the bundle of life with Yahweh your God. He will sling out the souls of your enemies, as from the hollow of a sling.It will come to pass, when Yahweh has done to my lord according to all the good that he has spoken concerning you, and has appointed you prince over Israel,that this shall be no grief to you, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that you have shed blood without cause, or that my lord has avenged himself. When Yahweh has dealt well with my lord, then remember your servant.”

My dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hiding places of the mountainside, let me see your face. let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet and your face is lovely.

Mary said,“ Behold, the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.” The angel departed from her.

Esther spoke yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and begged him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his plan that he had planned against the Jews.Then the king held out to Esther the golden scepter. So Esther arose, and stood before the king.She said,“ If it pleases the king, and if I have found favor in his sight, and the thing seem right to the king, and I am pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews who are in all the king’s provinces.For how can I endure to see the evil that would come to my people? How can I endure to see the destruction of my relatives?”

She said to them,“ Yahweh the God of Israel says,‘ Tell the man who sent you to me,“ Yahweh says,‘ Behold, I will bring evil on this place, and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.’”But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Yahweh, tell him,“ Yahweh the God of Israel says,‘ Concerning the words which you have heard,because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before Yahweh, when you heard what I spoke against this place, and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard you,’ says Yahweh.‘ Therefore behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the evil which I will bring on this place.’”’” So they brought this message back to the king.

Esther’s maidens and her eunuchs came and told her this, and the queen was exceedingly grieved. She sent clothing to Mordecai, to replace his sackcloth; but he didn’t receive it.

She said,“ Drink, my lord.” She hurried, and let down her pitcher on her hand, and gave him a drink.When she had finished giving him a drink, she said,“ I will also draw for your camels, until they have finished drinking.”She hurried, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again to the well to draw, and drew for all his camels.
