She sits in her doorway on the heights overlooking the city.

The Lord gives the word, and a great army brings the good news.

Listen as Wisdom calls out! Hear as understanding raises her voice!On the hilltop along the road, she takes her stand at the crossroads.By the gates at the entrance to the town, on the road leading in, she cries aloud,

Wisdom shouts in the streets. She cries out in the public square.She calls to the crowds along the main street, to those gathered in front of the city gate:“ How long, you simpletons, will you insist on being simpleminded? How long will you mockers relish your mocking? How long will you fools hate knowledge?Come and listen to my counsel. I’ll share my heart with you and make you wise.

“ The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was furious and said,‘ Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’After the servant had done this, he reported,‘ There is still room for more.’So his master said,‘ Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full.

When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell the guests,‘ Come, the banquet is ready.’

On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds,“ Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!

This is what God in his wisdom said about you:‘ I will send prophets and apostles to them, but they will kill some and persecute the others.’

When the banquet was ready, he sent his servants to notify those who were invited. But they all refused to come!“ So he sent other servants to tell them,‘ The feast has been prepared. The bulls and fattened cattle have been killed, and everything is ready. Come to the banquet!’

Jesus replied,“ Everyone knows what I teach. I have preached regularly in the synagogues and the Temple, where the people gather. I have not spoken in secret.

And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say,“ How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”

So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead,“ Come back to God!”For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

Now go out to the street corners and invite everyone you see.’
