From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety,

But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.

Years passed, and the king of Egypt died. But the Israelites continued to groan under their burden of slavery. They cried out for help, and their cry rose up to God.

Then the priests and Levites stood and blessed the people, and God heard their prayer from his holy dwelling in heaven.

And though I cry and shout, he has shut out my prayers.

“ Oh no, sir!” she replied.“ I haven’t been drinking wine or anything stronger. But I am very discouraged, and I was pouring out my heart to the Lord.Don’t think I am a wicked woman! For I have been praying out of great anguish and sorrow.”

Save me, O God, for the floodwaters are up to my neck.Deeper and deeper I sink into the mire; I can’t find a foothold. I am in deep water, and the floods overwhelm me.

“ About this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him to be the leader of my people, Israel. He will rescue them from the Philistines, for I have looked down on my people in mercy and have heard their cry.”

Hear my prayer, O Lord! Listen to my cries for help! Don’t ignore my tears. For I am your guest— a traveler passing through, as my ancestors were before me.

He prayed more fervently, and he was in such agony of spirit that his sweat fell to the ground like great drops of blood.

You have hidden yourself in a cloud so our prayers cannot reach you.

Come quickly, Lord, and answer me, for my depression deepens. Don’t turn away from me, or I will die.

While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.

I am losing all hope; I am paralyzed with fear.

I pour out my complaints before him and tell him all my troubles.When I am overwhelmed, you alone know the way I should turn. Wherever I go, my enemies have set traps for me.

Then the Israelites put aside their foreign gods and served the Lord. And he was grieved by their misery.

Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you.

From the depths of despair, O Lord, I call for your help.Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer.

Listen to my prayer, O God. Do not ignore my cry for help!Please listen and answer me, for I am overwhelmed by my troubles.My enemies shout at me, making loud and wicked threats. They bring trouble on me and angrily hunt me down.My heart pounds in my chest. The terror of death assaults me.Fear and trembling overwhelm me, and I can’t stop shaking.

He grants the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cries for help and rescues them.

I cry out,“ My splendor is gone! Everything I had hoped for from the Lord is lost!”The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words.I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss.

Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble.The Lord protects them and keeps them alive. He gives them prosperity in the land and rescues them from their enemies.

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until the danger passes by.I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.He will send help from heaven to rescue me, disgracing those who hound me. Interlude My God will send forth his unfailing love and faithfulness.

My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration!

O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge. Interlude

He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he became deeply troubled and distressed.He told them,“ My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

The Lord replies,“ I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do.”

I think of God, and I moan, overwhelmed with longing for his help. Interlude
