And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height[ was] six cubits and a span.

And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that[ is] upon the sea shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.And when all these kings were met together, they came and pitched together at the waters of Merom, to fight against Israel.And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for tomorrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly; and they fell upon them.And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them, and chased them unto great Zidon, and unto Misrephothmaim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.

And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels[ were] without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.And when Gideon was come, behold,[ there was] a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.And his fellow answered and said, This[ is] nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel:[ for] into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.And it was[ so], when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.And he divided the three hundred men[ into] three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be[ that], as I do, so shall ye do.When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that[ are] with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say,[ The sword] of the LORD, and of Gideon.So Gideon, and the hundred men that[ were] with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that[ were] in their hands.And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow[ withal]: and they cried, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.And they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the LORD set every man’s sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Bethshittah in Zererath,[ and] to the border of Abelmeholah, unto Tabbath.And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites.And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan.And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.

And the children of Israel were numbered, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD[ is] God of the hills, but he[ is] not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I[ am] the LORD.And they pitched one over against the other seven days. And[ so] it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined: and the children of Israel slew of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.

Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel.And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which[ was] of the sons of the giant.And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew[ the brother of] Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear[ was] like a weaver’s beam.And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of[ great] stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea the brother of David slew him.These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.

And Benhadad sent unto him, and said, The gods do so unto me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.

And the LORD said unto Gideon, The people that[ are] with thee[ are] too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD,[ it is] nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou[ art] our God; let not man prevail against thee.So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.And Asa and the people that[ were] with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.

O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes[ are] upon thee.

Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims[ were] there, and[ that] the cities[ were] great[ and] fenced: if so be the LORD[ will be] with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.

And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen,[ and] all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them.

Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise[ man] glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty[ man] glory in his might, let not the rich[ man] glory in his riches:

And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.And the Egyptians shall know that I[ am] the LORD, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.

For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle[ is] the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands.And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang[ it], and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

With him[ is] an arm of flesh; but with us[ is] the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem,( but he[ himself laid siege] against Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that[ were] at Jerusalem, saying,
