Because of you, people laugh at me. My face is covered with shame.

因我为你的缘故受了辱骂，满面羞愧。

然而，為了你的緣故，我忍受辱罵，滿面羞愧。

因為是為了你的緣故我才擔受辱罵，而滿面蒙着羞辱的。

因為我為你的緣故承擔辱罵，羞愧遮蓋了我的臉。

我為爾受詬詈、羞慚蔽我面兮、

予為爾受凌辱、抱愧怍兮、

緣我為主受毀謗、滿面蒙羞、

惟不欲因予之故兮。而貽恃主者以慚惶。更不欲因予之故兮。而致求主者之失望。

For I endure scorn for your sake, and shame covers my face.

For it is for your sake that I have borne reproach, that dishonor has covered my face.

For I endure insults for your sake; humiliation is written all over my face.

For I have endured insults because of you, and shame has covered my face.

Because for Your sake I have endured disgrace; Dishonor has covered my face.

Because for Your sake I have borne reproach; Shame has covered my face.

Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; Shame hath covered my face.

For I have endured insults because of You, and shame has covered my face.

Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.

For I suffer humiliation for your sake and am thoroughly disgraced.

Because for your sake, I have borne reproach. Shame has covered my face.

Lord, you understand how much I’m suffering. Show concern for me. Take care of me. Pay back those who are trying to harm me. You are patient. Don’t take my life away from me. Think about how much shame I suffer because of you.

I let my enemies beat me on my bare back. I let them pull the hair out of my beard. I didn’t turn my face away when they made fun of me and spit on me.

But because of you, we face death all day long. We are considered as sheep to be killed.

Let us keep looking to Jesus. He is the one who started this journey of faith. And he is the one who completes the journey of faith. He paid no attention to the shame of the cross. He suffered there because of the joy he was looking forward to. Then he sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

People looked down on him. They didn’t accept him. He knew all about pain and suffering. He was like someone people turn their faces away from. We looked down on him. We didn’t have any respect for him.

Everyone treats me like a worm and not a man. They hate me and look down on me.All those who see me laugh at me. They shout at me and make fun of me. They shake their heads at me.They say,“ He trusts in the Lord. Let the Lord help him. If the Lord is pleased with him, let him save him.”

The people stood there watching. The rulers even made fun of Jesus. They said,“ He saved others. Let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”The soldiers also came up and poked fun at him. They offered him wine vinegar.They said,“ If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”

All day long I have to live with my shame. My face is covered with it.

They will treat you like that because of my name. They do not know the one who sent me.If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have no excuse for their sin.Whoever hates me hates my Father also.I did works among them that no one else did. If I hadn’t, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen those works. And still they have hated both me and my Father.

Then they twisted thorns together to make a crown. They placed it on his head. They put a stick in his right hand. Then they fell on their knees in front of him and made fun of him.“ We honor you, king of the Jews!” they said.They spit on him. They hit him on the head with the stick again and again.

Herod and his soldiers laughed at him and made fun of him. They dressed him in a beautiful robe. Then they sent him back to Pilate.

Two rebels against Rome were crucified with him. One was on his right and one was on his left.Those who passed by shouted at Jesus and made fun of him. They shook their headsand said,“ So you are going to destroy the temple and build it again in three days? Then save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!”In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders made fun of him.“ He saved others,” they said.“ But he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross! Then we will believe in him.He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him. He’s the one who said,‘ I am the Son of God.’ ”In the same way the rebels who were being crucified with Jesus also made fun of him.

Then they spit in his face. They hit him with their fists. Others slapped him.They said,“ Prophesy to us, Messiah! Who hit you?”
