有一位先知名叫以利亚，是基列的提斯比人。他对亚哈说：“我凭我事奉的以色列的上帝——永活的耶和华起誓，如果我不祷告，这几年必没有雨水和甘露。”

我们大祸临头了！谁能从这些大能的神明手中救我们？在旷野用各种灾祸毁灭埃及人的就是这些神明。

所以祂说要用手杖击打尼罗河水，使河水变成血，好叫你知道祂是耶和华。河里的鱼会死，河水会发臭，埃及人不能再喝尼罗河的水。’”耶和华对摩西说：“你告诉亚伦，让他向埃及境内的各江河、溪流、池塘伸杖，使水变成血。埃及境内，包括木桶和石缸里将到处是血。”摩西和亚伦就按着耶和华所吩咐的去做，亚伦在法老和埃及众臣仆面前举杖击打尼罗河水，河水都变成了血。河里的鱼都死了，河水臭得不能饮用。埃及遍地都是血。可是，法老的巫师也一样用邪术使水变成血。法老的心仍然刚硬，不肯听从摩西和亚伦的话，正如耶和华所言。法老若无其事地转身回宫去了。因为河水不能饮用，埃及人就在尼罗河两岸掘井取水饮用。击打河水后，七天过去了。

所以你们要彼此认罪，互相代祷，好得到医治。义人的祷告有极大的力量和功效。以利亚先知和我们一样同是血肉之躯，他恳切地祈求不要下雨，结果三年半没有下雨。后来他再祷告求雨，天就降雨，地也长出了庄稼。

祂派遣祂的仆人摩西和祂拣选的亚伦，在埃及行神迹，在含地行奇事。祂降下黑暗，使黑暗笼罩那里；他们没有违背祂的话。祂使埃及的水变成血，鱼都死去；又使国中到处是青蛙，王宫禁院也不能幸免。祂一发命令，苍蝇蜂拥而至，虱子遍满全境。祂使雨变成冰雹，遍地电光闪闪。祂击倒他们的葡萄树和无花果树，摧毁他们境内的树木。祂一发声，就飞来无数蝗虫和蚂蚱，吃尽他们土地上的植物，吃尽他们田间的出产。祂又击杀他们境内所有的长子，就是他们年轻力壮时生的长子。

耶和华对我说：“人子啊，主耶和华对以色列这样说，‘结局到了，以色列全境的结局到了！以色列，你的结局到了，我的怒气必倾倒在你身上，我必按你的行为审判你，照你的一切恶行报应你。我必不顾惜你，也不怜悯你，我必按你的恶行报应你。这样，你必知道我是耶和华。’”主耶和华说：“看啊，灾祸来了，一场空前的灾祸来了！结局到了，结局到了，你的结局到了！以色列境内的居民啊，恶运降临了！时候已到，日子已近，山上一片恐慌，欢乐荡然无存。我快要向你倾倒我的烈怒，发出我的怒气。我必按你的行为审判你，照你一切的恶行报应你。我必不顾惜你，也不怜悯你，我必按你的恶行报应你。这样，你就知道惩罚你的是我耶和华。“看啊，看啊，日子到了，大祸临头了！杖已经发芽，傲慢已经开花。暴行成了惩罚邪恶的杖，以色列人必没有一个能够存留，他们的财富和尊荣必不复存在。时候到了，日子近了，买主不要欢乐，卖主也不要忧愁，因为烈怒临到了所有的人。
