But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.

so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains.

And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise.

For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly.For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God.

Rejoice always,pray without ceasing,

for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy;

All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.

Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, greets you, always struggling on your behalf in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God.

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.

But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings,

But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.

But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.

As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

If anyone is to be taken captive, to captivity he goes; if anyone is to be slain with the sword, with the sword must he be slain. Here is a call for the endurance and faith of the saints.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,so that the tested genuineness of your faith— more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire— may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,

May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.

In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.

I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.

to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life;

The hope of the righteous brings joy, but the expectation of the wicked will perish.

The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.

Therefore we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your steadfastness and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions that you are enduring.

but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope.

and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness,

so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

And Jacob was left alone. And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day.When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he touched his hip socket, and Jacob’s hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him.Then he said,“ Let me go, for the day has broken.” But Jacob said,“ I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel,

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!

And he said to them,“ Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him,‘ Friend, lend me three loaves,for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’;and he will answer from within,‘ Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything’?I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs.And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent;or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

By your endurance you will gain your lives.

As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience.

“ The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,“ therefore I will hope in him.”The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

You who have made me see many troubles and calamities will revive me again; from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again.You will increase my greatness and comfort me again.I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praises to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel.My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to you; my soul also, which you have redeemed.

Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.He said,“ In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man.And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying,‘ Give me justice against my adversary.’For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself,‘ Though I neither fear God nor respect man,yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’”And the Lord said,“ Hear what the unrighteous judge says.And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt:“ Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus:‘ God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying,‘ God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.But Jesus called them to him, saying,“ Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”And a ruler asked him,“ Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”And Jesus said to him,“ Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.You know the commandments:‘ Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’”And he said,“ All these I have kept from my youth.”When Jesus heard this, he said to him,“ One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.Jesus, seeing that he had become sad, said,“ How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”Those who heard it said,“ Then who can be saved?”But he said,“ What is impossible with man is possible with God.”And Peter said,“ See, we have left our homes and followed you.”And he said to them,“ Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.”And taking the twelve, he said to them,“ See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.For he will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon.And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise.”But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant.They told him,“ Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”And he cried out,“ Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more,“ Son of David, have mercy on me!”And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him,“ What do you want me to do for you?” He said,“ Lord, let me recover my sight.”And Jesus said to him,“ Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.”And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me.

O my God, incline your ear and hear. Open your eyes and see our desolations, and the city that is called by your name. For we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness, but because of your great mercy.O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive. O Lord, pay attention and act. Delay not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.”

You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory.Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

So Peter was kept in prison, but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church.

The wicked is overthrown through his evildoing, but the righteous finds refuge in his death.

So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath,so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,

You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness,

For what is the hope of the godless when God cuts him off, when God takes away his life?Will God hear his cry when distress comes upon him?Will he take delight in the Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times?

But I call to God, and the Lord will save me.Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice.

Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls,yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”

Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is no trouble to me and is safe for you.

In return for my love they accuse me, but I give myself to prayer.
