Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him,“ So shall your offspring be.”

When there was no reason for hope, Abraham believed because he had hope. He became the father of many nations, exactly as God had promised. God said,“ That is how many children you will have.”( Genesis 15:5)

In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told,“ So shall your offspring be.”

Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping— believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him,“ That’s how many descendants you will have!”

就領他出去到外邊，說：『你望着天，數數眾星，看能數得過來不能。』又對他說：『你的後裔就要這樣。』亞伯蘭信永恆主，永恆主就給他算為義了。

因為我們得了救是因着盼望。只是所盼望的若已得看見，便不是盼望了；因為人所看見的、他何必還盼望呢？

盼望是令人不失望的；因為上帝的愛、藉着所賜給我們、的聖靈、傾注於我們心裏。

耶穌還說着話的時候，有人從會堂管事那裏來，說：『你女兒死掉了；為甚麼還麻煩先生呢？』耶穌從旁邊聽見所說的話，就對會堂管事說：『別怕了，只要信。』

所以同人們，你們要振作精神；我信上帝，我信所告訴我的怎樣，事情也必怎樣。

拿俄米說：『我女兒們哪，回去吧！為甚麼要跟我去呢？難道我腹中還有兒子可以給你們做丈夫麼？我女兒們哪，回去吧；去吧；我已經老了、不能再有丈夫。就使我說我還有希望今夜竟有丈夫，也竟能生兒子，難道你們就能等到他們長大麼？難道你們就能閉關自守而不嫁人麼？我女兒們哪，不要這樣；為了你們的緣故、我苦極了，因為永恆主伸出手來打我。』

所盼望的遷延而未得、令人憂苦；所切願的一來到，乃像生命之樹。

在亞伯拉罕所信的上帝面前，就是在那能叫死人活、能呼叫不存在的成為存在者、面前，亞伯拉罕是我眾人的父；正如經上所記：『我立了你做許多邦國的父』。

主對我說：『人子啊，這些骸骨就是以色列全家；看哪，他們常說：「我們的骸骨都很枯乾；我們的指望都滅沒了；我們都被割絕淨盡了。」

撒迦利亞對天使說：『我憑甚麼可以知道這事呢？我已經老了，我的妻子年紀也老邁了。』

他看透了自己的身體像已死了的（那時他已將近百歲），又看透了撒拉胎孕機能之死絕，卻沒有在信心上顯着衰弱，
