毅然棄絕一切暗昧可恥之事、不行巧詐、不貶損天主之道、惟知在天主明鑒之下、藉真理之昌明、而自致於各人之良知而已。

Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.

Instead, we have given up doing secret and shameful things. We don’t twist God’s word. In fact, we do just the opposite. We present the truth plainly. In the sight of God, we make our appeal to everyone’s sense of what is right and wrong.

But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.

We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods. We don’t try to trick anyone or distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know this.

Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful things, not acting deceitfully or distorting the word of God, but commending ourselves before God to everyone’s conscience by an open display of the truth.

因是、吾人不敢貶損天主聖道、以圖私利、若滔滔者之所為；惟知契合基督、對越天主、一秉至誠、以宣純粹之道而已矣。

蓋吾儕所持以勸人者、真實無妄、純潔無邪、而光明正大也。吾儕既承天主不棄、托以福音、故惟知率直講道、不欲取悅於人、但欲取悅於洞察人心之天主而已。吾儕未嘗用阿諛之詞、是爾等所知也。亦未嘗圖私利、是天主所知也。

吾人既知畏之、不敢不勉人以善。吾人之肺腑、悉在天主洞察之中；深信爾等亦必能心領吾人之丹忱也。

若輩偽宗徒冒基督宗徒之名、而行其欺詐之實。然此不足為奇；即沙殫亦嘗冒充光明之天神、則其僕之冒充正義之僕、不亦宜乎！惟若輩必依其所作之孽、而受報應也。

故望爾等在時機未熟之前、勿遽下評斷；務須靜候主之來臨。屆時、彼必燭幽揚隱、揭曉人心之思慮；而人人必得公允之褒獎矣。

顧吾所惴焉而懼者、惟恐爾向主之忠心失其淳樸、如夏娃之見誘於譎虺耳。

蓋曩者吾曾誇爾等之美於提多之前矣；爾等實未使我抱愧也。然則吾儕所誇耀於提多之前者、皆真實不虛、正如吾儕向爾等所直言不諱者、亦皆真實不虛也。

故吾人立身處世、在在欲自表為天主之忠僕、事事堅忍；故患難也、匱乏也、困苦也、受撻也、監禁也、遘亂也、操作也、守夜也、齋戒也、貞潔也、好學也、克己也、溫和也、聖神之靈感也、篤實之愛德也、直言真道也、宣揚天主之德威也、［何一而非自表為天主之忠僕者乎？］而仁義之甲、護衛左右、

試一思之、爾昔日所行、今日所恥之種切、於爾究有何益？死亡為其必然之結果！

然則吾人不可再為稚子、隨風飄盪、漫無定止、惑於異端、而溺於邪說。

蓋若輩所行曖昧之事、即言之亦可羞也。

蓋吾不以福音為恥也。福音乃天主之神力、用以救度信徒、始于猶太、爰及希臘。

蓋吾儕所引以為榮、而問心無疚者、則吾儕立身處世、尤在爾我之間、一秉天主之正直及至誠、不徇私智、惟恃天主聖寵而已。

吾雖拙於辭令、要非疏於學識者；此固爾等之所洞悉也。
