He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

Since, then, we have such a hope, we act with great boldness.

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you, and I am completing in my flesh what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for his body, that is, the church.

But even if I am poured out as a drink offering on the sacrificial service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.

For who is our hope or joy or crown of boasting in the presence of our Lord Jesus at his coming? Is it not you?

My eager expectation and hope is that I will not be ashamed about anything, but that now as always, with all courage, Christ will be highly honored in my body, whether by life or by death.

Now I, Paul, myself, appeal to you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ— I who am humble among you in person but bold toward you when absent.I beg you that when I am present I will not need to be bold with the confidence by which I plan to challenge certain people who think we are living according to the flesh.

Therefore, show them proof before the churches of your love and of our boasting about you.

Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials,

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in Christ’s triumphal procession and through us spreads the aroma of the knowledge of him in every place.

For I know your eagerness, and I boast about you to the Macedonians,“ Achaia has been ready since last year,” and your zeal has stirred up most of them.But I am sending the brothers so that our boasting about you in this matter would not prove empty, and so that you would be ready just as I said.Otherwise, if any Macedonians come with me and find you unprepared, we, not to mention you, would be put to shame in that situation.

as grieving, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet enriching many; as having nothing, yet possessing everything.We have spoken openly to you, Corinthians; our heart has been opened wide.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, in all our distress and affliction, we were encouraged about you through your faith.For now we live, if you stand firm in the Lord.How can we thank God for you in return for all the joy we experience before our God because of you,

Pray also for me, that the message may be given to me when I open my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel.For this I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I might be bold enough to speak about it as I should.

On the contrary, after we had previously suffered and were treated outrageously in Philippi, as you know, we were emboldened by our God to speak the gospel of God to you in spite of great opposition.

And not only that, but we also boast in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance,

I say this to our shame: We have been too weak for that! But in whatever anyone dares to boast— I am talking foolishly— I also dare:

just as you have partially understood us— that we are your reason for pride, just as you also are ours in the day of our Lord Jesus.

But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the arrival of Titus,and not only by his arrival but also by the comfort he received from you. He told us about your deep longing, your sorrow, and your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more.

Then they went out from the presence of the Sanhedrin, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to be treated shamefully on behalf of the Name.

I always thank my God for you because of the grace of God given to you in Christ Jesus,
