我破坏假先知的预兆，使占卜者显为愚妄；我颠覆了智慧人，使他们的知识变为愚拙；

是那使信口胡謅者的兆頭無效的，使占卜者變成了狂妄人，使智慧人退後，使他們的智識變為愚拙的，

我破壞假先知的預兆，使占卜者顯為愚妄；我顛覆了智慧人，使他們的知識變為愚拙；

我使誑者之兆不驗、卜筮之輩顚狂、智者卻退、其聰慧變為愚拙、

卜筮之輩、設兆惑人、我使其言不驗、彼自矜巧慧、反形愚拙、我使之然。

使偽先知所言預兆無驗、使卜筮者顯為愚、使智慧人退後、使其靈巧變為愚拙、

who foils the signs of false prophets and makes fools of diviners, who overthrows the learning of the wise and turns it into nonsense,

“ Some prophets are not really prophets at all. I show that their signs are fake. I make those who practice evil magic look foolish. I destroy the learning of those who think they are wise. Their knowledge does not make any sense at all.

who frustrates the signs of liars and makes fools of diviners, who turns wise men back and makes their knowledge foolish,

I expose the false prophets as liars and make fools of fortune tellers. I cause the wise to give bad advice, thus proving them to be fools.

who destroys the omens of the false prophets and makes fools of diviners; who confounds the wise and makes their knowledge foolishness;

Causing the omens of diviners to fail, Making fools of fortune tellers; Causing wise men to turn back And making their knowledge ridiculous,

Who frustrates the signs of the babblers, And drives diviners mad; Who turns wise men backward, And makes their knowledge foolishness;

that frustrateth the signs of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;

who destroys the omens of the false prophets and makes fools of diviners; who confounds the wise and makes their knowledge foolishness;

That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise[ men] backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;

who frustrates the omens of the empty talkers and humiliates the omen readers, who overturns the counsel of the wise men and makes their advice seem foolish,

Yahweh brings the counsel of the nations to nothing. He makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.

He frustrates the plans of the crafty, So that their hands can’t perform their enterprise.He takes the wise in their own craftiness; the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope at noonday as in the night.

Someone told David, saying,“ Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” David said,“ Yahweh, please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.”

A sword is on the boasters, and they will become fools. A sword is on her mighty men, and they will be dismayed.

I will make her princes, her wise men, her governors, her deputies, and her mighty men drunk. They will sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake up,” says the King, whose name is Yahweh of Armies.

therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder; and the wisdom of their wise men will perish, and the understanding of their prudent men will be hidden.”

“ Stand now with your enchantments and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored from your youth, as if you might profit, as if you might prevail.You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Now let the astrologers, the stargazers, and the monthly prognosticators, stand up and save you from the things that will happen to you.Behold, they are like stubble. The fire will burn them. They won’t deliver themselves from the power of the flame. It won’t be a coal to warm at or a fire to sit by.

Then the king’s face was changed in him, and his thoughts troubled him; and the joints of his thighs were loosened, and his knees struck one against another.The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon,“ Whoever reads this writing, and shows me its interpretation, shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.”Then all the king’s wise men came in; but they could not read the writing, and couldn’t make known to the king the interpretation.

Then the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers came in; and I told the dream before them; but they didn’t make known to me its interpretation.

But as for you, don’t listen to your prophets, to your diviners, to your dreams, to your soothsayers, or to your sorcerers, who speak to you, saying,“ You shall not serve the king of Babylon;”for they prophesy a lie to you, to remove you far from your land, so that I would drive you out, and you would perish.

Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made himself horns of iron, and said,“ Yahweh says,‘ With these you will push the Syrians, until they are consumed.’”All the prophets prophesied so, saying,“ Go up to Ramoth Gilead, and prosper; for Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.”

The princes of Zoan are utterly foolish. The counsel of the wisest counselors of Pharaoh has become stupid. How do you say to Pharaoh,“ I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?”Where then are your wise men? Let them tell you now; and let them know what Yahweh of Armies has purposed concerning Egypt.The princes of Zoan have become fools. The princes of Memphis are deceived. They have caused Egypt to go astray, who are the cornerstone of her tribes.Yahweh has mixed a spirit of perverseness in the middle of her; and they have caused Egypt to go astray in all of its works, like a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

The counsel of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if a man inquired at the inner sanctuary of God. All the counsel of Ahithophel both was like this with David and with Absalom.

Of Edom, Yahweh of Armies says:“ Is wisdom no more in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished?

The magicians couldn’t stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boils were on the magicians and on all the Egyptians.

In every matter of wisdom and understanding, concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters who were in all his realm.

So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.

All the prophets prophesied so, saying,“ Go up to Ramoth Gilead, and prosper; for Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.”

Yahweh said to him,‘ How?’ He said,‘ I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ He said,‘ You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.’Now therefore, behold, Yahweh has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets; and Yahweh has spoken evil concerning you.”Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said,“ Which way did Yahweh’s Spirit go from me to speak to you?”Micaiah said,“ Behold, you will see on that day, when you go into an inner room to hide yourself.”

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written,“ He has taken the wise in their craftiness.”And again,“ The Lord knows the reasoning of the wise, that it is worthless.”

The battle increased that day. However the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the evening; and at about sunset, he died.

When Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey, arose, and went home, to his city, and set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.

The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said,“ There is not a man on the earth who can show the king’s matter, because no king, lord, or ruler, has asked such a thing of any magician, or enchanter, or Chaldean.It is a rare thing that the king requires, and there is no other who can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.”Because of this, the king was angry and very furious, and commanded that all the wise men of Babylon be destroyed.

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the lawyer of this world? Hasn’t God made foolish the wisdom of this world?For seeing that in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom didn’t know God, it was God’s good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save those who believe.For Jews ask for signs, Greeks seek after wisdom,but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews, and foolishness to Greeks,but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God;because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble;but God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame those who are wise. God chose the weak things of the world that he might put to shame the things that are strong.

The prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet happens, then the prophet will be known, that Yahweh has truly sent him.”Then Hananiah the prophet took the bar from off the prophet Jeremiah’s neck, and broke it.Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying,“ Yahweh says:‘ Even so I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from off the neck of all the nations within two full years.’” Then the prophet Jeremiah went his way.Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, after Hananiah the prophet had broken the bar from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying,“ Go, and tell Hananiah, saying,‘ Yahweh says,“ You have broken the bars of wood, but you have made in their place bars of iron.”For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says,“ I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they will serve him. I have also given him the animals of the field.”’”Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet,“ Listen, Hananiah! Yahweh has not sent you, but you make this people trust in a lie.Therefore Yahweh says,‘ Behold, I will send you away from off the surface of the earth. This year you will die, because you have spoken rebellion against Yahweh.’”So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.
