“ Foreigners will build up your walls, and their kings will serve you: for in my wrath I struck you, but in my favor I have had mercy on you.

But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, didn’t they overtake your fathers?“ Then they repented and said,‘ Just as Yahweh of Armies determined to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.’”

We have the more sure word of prophecy; and you do well that you heed it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns, and the morning star arises in your hearts:knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of private interpretation.For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit.

Behold, the former things have happened and I declare new things. I tell you about them before they come up.”

“ You afflicted, tossed with storms, and not comforted, behold, I will set your stones in beautiful colors, and lay your foundations with sapphires.I will make your pinnacles of rubies, your gates of sparkling jewels, and all your walls of precious stones.

For most certainly, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letter or one tiny pen stroke shall in any way pass away from the law, until all things are accomplished.

“ Know therefore and discern that from the going out of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem to the Anointed One, the prince, will be seven weeks and sixty- two weeks. It will be built again, with street and moat, even in troubled times.

Yahweh builds up Jerusalem. He gathers together the outcasts of Israel.

“‘ The Lord Yahweh says:“ Are you he of whom I spoke in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, who prophesied in those days for years that I would bring you against them?

At midnight, Yahweh struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of livestock.Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where there was not one dead.

Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests, and they built the sheep gate. They sanctified it, and set up its doors. They sanctified it even to the tower of Hammeah, to the tower of Hananel.Next to him the men of Jericho built. Next to them Zaccur the son of Imri built.The sons of Hassenaah built the fish gate. They laid its beams, and set up its doors, its bolts, and its bars.Next to them, Meremoth the son of Uriah, the son of Hakkoz made repairs. Next to them, Meshullam the son of Berechiah, the son of Meshezabel made repairs. Next to them, Zadok the son of Baana made repairs.Next to them, the Tekoites made repairs; but their nobles didn’t put their necks to the Lord’s work.Joiada the son of Paseah and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah repaired the old gate. They laid its beams, and set up its doors, and its bolts, and its bars.Next to them, Melatiah the Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon and of Mizpah, repaired the residence of the governor beyond the River.Next to him, Uzziel the son of Harhaiah, goldsmiths, made repairs. Next to him, Hananiah, one of the perfumers, made repairs, and they fortified Jerusalem even to the wide wall.Next to them, Rephaiah the son of Hur, the ruler of half the district of Jerusalem, made repairs.Next to them, Jedaiah the son of Harumaph made repairs across from his house. Next to him, Hattush the son of Hashabneiah made repairs.Malchijah the son of Harim, and Hasshub the son of Pahathmoab, repaired another portion, and the tower of the furnaces.Next to him, Shallum the son of Hallohesh, the ruler of half the district of Jerusalem, he and his daughters, made repairs.Hanun and the inhabitants of Zanoah repaired the valley gate. They built it, and set up its doors, its bolts, and its bars, and one thousand cubits of the wall to the dung gate.Malchijah the son of Rechab, the ruler of the district of Beth Haccherem repaired the dung gate. He built it, and set up its doors, its bolts, and its bars.Shallun the son of Colhozeh, the ruler of the district of Mizpah repaired the spring gate. He built it, and covered it, and set up its doors, its bolts, and its bars, and the wall of the pool of Shelah by the king’s garden, even to the stairs that go down from David’s city.After him, Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, the ruler of half the district of Beth Zur, made repairs to the place opposite the tombs of David, and to the pool that was made, and to the house of the mighty men.After him, the Levites, Rehum the son of Bani made repairs. Next to him, Hashabiah, the ruler of half the district of Keilah, made repairs for his district.After him, their brothers, Bavvai the son of Henadad, the ruler of half the district of Keilah made repairs.Next to him, Ezer the son of Jeshua, the ruler of Mizpah, repaired another portion, across from the ascent to the armory at the turning of the wall.After him, Baruch the son of Zabbai earnestly repaired another portion, from the turning of the wall to the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest.After him, Meremoth the son of Uriah the son of Hakkoz repaired another portion, from the door of the house of Eliashib even to the end of the house of Eliashib.After him, the priests, the men of the Plain made repairs.After them, Benjamin and Hasshub made repairs across from their house. After them, Azariah the son of Maaseiah the son of Ananiah made repairs beside his own house.After him, Binnui the son of Henadad repaired another portion, from the house of Azariah to the turning of the wall, and to the corner.Palal the son of Uzai made repairs opposite the turning of the wall, and the tower that stands out from the upper house of the king, which is by the court of the guard. After him Pedaiah the son of Parosh made repairs.( Now the temple servants lived in Ophel, to the place opposite the water gate toward the east, and the tower that stands out.)After him the Tekoites repaired another portion, opposite the great tower that stands out, and to the wall of Ophel.Above the horse gate, the priests made repairs, everyone across from his own house.After them, Zadok the son of Immer made repairs across from his own house. After him, Shemaiah the son of Shecaniah, the keeper of the east gate made repairs.After him, Hananiah the son of Shelemiah, and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph, repaired another portion. After him, Meshullam the son of Berechiah made repairs across from his room.After him, Malchijah, one of the goldsmiths to the house of the temple servants, and of the merchants, made repairs opposite the gate of Hammiphkad, and to the ascent of the corner.Between the ascent of the corner and the sheep gate, the goldsmiths and the merchants made repairs.

He gave a sign the same day, saying,“ This is the sign which Yahweh has spoken: Behold, the altar will be split apart, and the ashes that are on it will be poured out.”When the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam put out his hand from the altar, saying,“ Seize him!” His hand, which he put out against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back again to himself.The altar was also split apart, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by Yahweh’s word.

At the time of the evening offering, Elijah the prophet came near, and said,“ Yahweh, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word.Hear me, Yahweh, hear me, that this people may know that you, Yahweh, are God, and that you have turned their heart back again.”Then Yahweh’s fire fell, and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

I will bring my people Israel back from captivity, and they will rebuild the ruined cities, and inhabit them; and they will plant vineyards, and drink wine from them. They shall also make gardens, and eat their fruit.

Yahweh says:“ Behold, I will reverse the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have compassion on his dwelling places. The city will be built on its own hill, and the palace will be inhabited in its own place.

Men will buy fields for money, sign the deeds, seal them, and call witnesses, in the land of Benjamin, and in the places around Jerusalem, in the cities of Judah, in the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South; for I will cause their captivity to be reversed,” says Yahweh.

I will build you again, and you will be built, O virgin of Israel. You will again be adorned with your tambourines, and will go out in the dances of those who make merry.

For you will spread out on the right hand and on the left; and your offspring will possess the nations and settle in desolate cities.

I will multiply men on you, all the house of Israel, even all of it. The cities will be inhabited, and the waste places will be built.

I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.

and said to him,“ Run, speak to this young man, saying,‘ Jerusalem will be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the multitude of men and livestock in it.

They will rebuild the old ruins. They will raise up the former devastated places. They will repair the ruined cities that have been devastated for many generations.

They said to me,“ The remnant who are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”

He said to them,“ This is what I told you, while I was still with you, that all things which are written in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms, concerning me must be fulfilled.”

For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says:‘ Houses and fields and vineyards will yet again be bought in this land.’

“‘ The Lord Yahweh says:“ In the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited and the waste places will be built.The land that was desolate will be tilled instead of being a desolation in the sight of all who passed by.They will say,‘ This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden. The waste, desolate, and ruined cities are fortified and inhabited.’Then the nations that are left around you will know that I, Yahweh, have built the ruined places, and planted that which was desolate. I, Yahweh, have spoken it, and I will do it.”

In that day I will make the chieftains of Judah like a pan of fire among wood, and like a flaming torch among sheaves; and they will devour all the surrounding peoples, on the right hand and on the left; and Jerusalem will yet again dwell in their own place, even in Jerusalem.

You will arise and have mercy on Zion; for it is time to have pity on her. Yes, the set time has come.For your servants take pleasure in her stones, and have pity on her dust.So the nations will fear Yahweh’s name, all the kings of the earth your glory.For Yahweh has built up Zion. He has appeared in his glory.

For David says concerning him,‘ I saw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved.Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced. Moreover my flesh also will dwell in hope;because you will not leave my soul in Hades, neither will you allow your Holy One to see decay.You made known to me the ways of life. You will make me full of gladness with your presence.’

“ Behold, the days come,” says Yahweh,“ that the city will be built to Yahweh from the tower of Hananel to the gate of the corner.The measuring line will go out further straight onward to the hill Gareb, and will turn toward Goah.The whole valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes, and all the fields to the brook Kidron, to the corner of the horse gate toward the east, will be holy to Yahweh. It will not be plucked up or thrown down any more forever.”

But all this has happened that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.

So the priests and the Levites, with some of the people, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the temple servants, lived in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.

Those who will be of you will build the old waste places. You will raise up the foundations of many generations. You will be called Repairer of the Breach, Restorer of Paths with Dwellings.

I said to the king,“ Let the king live forever! Why shouldn’t my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ tombs, lies waste, and its gates have been consumed with fire?”

Moses said,“ This is what Yahweh says:‘ About midnight I will go out into the middle of Egypt,and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the female servant who is behind the mill, and all the firstborn of livestock.There will be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has not been, nor will be any more.

All the land will be made like the Arabah, from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem; and she will be lifted up, and will dwell in her place, from Benjamin’s gate to the place of the first gate, to the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananel to the king’s wine presses.Men will dwell therein, and there will be no more curse; but Jerusalem will dwell safely.
